I always said I wanted the e-certificate because you don't have to send off your "original" for a passport, and also because it can be infinitely backed up and printed. However, I am going through the passport application for the occupation-based guarantor form (PPTC 140) and it states in the requirements checklist:

Proof of Canadian citizenship; the document will be returned to you

• Birth certificate: ORIGINAL
• Citizenship certificate, if issued:
  • Before February 1, 2012: ORIGINAL
  • On or after February 1, 2012: ORIGINAL OR COPY (emphasis mine)

So I guess one benefit of the e-certificate that I thought was there is not real. I just wanted to update since I had misinformed, thinking you had to send your original certificate if you get a paper certificate. I'm not sure if this applies to the regular passport forms. Too bad I couldn't use the "citizenship to passport pilot" I was invited to; I wouldn't even need a guarantor.

PS - I registered to vote from abroad, so I should get my ballot by mail.

I've voted from abroad before - I'd just warn that the timeframes involved are so short with Canadian elections that it's 'best efforts' basis only - sometimes just won't be likely to get there in time. In some faraway places the embassies used to cooperate/organize receiving ballots, notifying and sending signed ballots back to Canada via diplomatic pouch; I doubt that still happens, or if it does, not many places. (That said I don't know current procedures)

Which is my way of saying, if you want your vote to count, try to do it in Canada (preferable!), or go out of your way to send your mailed ballot back by fastest method possible.

Still, vote. I'd call elections canada today. I think you can vote now, anywhere in the country. You'd likely have to do it with a blank ballot (i.e. where you fill in name of your preferred candidate).

Or perhaps IRCC just realized that, due to a "technical difficulty", huge numbers of applications haven't been updated over the past couple months, and they will now all magically show the Oath ceremonies scheduled!

Is anyone having trouble getting into the tracker today? I am getting this error.

The tracker still doesn't work on PC for me today, but it works on mobile. Worked yesterday morning at least on mobile too. Anyway, I thought people might want to see the resolution in the tracker. I printed to PDF from the phone and then took screenshots on my PC to try to get it looking like the PC version.

It works right now on mobile for me. On PC, if you use the network inspector in your browser, you'll see it's an error coming back from their CloudFront CDN. I believe the error is technical in nature (as a Software Architect), and not a hack.
