Hi there,

I am a Canadian citizen (Residing in Canada) getting married to an Indian citizen who is a resident of UAE. Has anyone gone through the process to obtain a legal marriage certificate from Dubai or Abu Dhabi and is able to provide me with insight into what documents are required from both parties in order to obtain this certificate.
- Some websites say I need a statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad while others state that it is not required.
- If it is required, am I able to obtain this in Canada or must it be done in the Canadian Embassy located in Dubai?

(I intend to submit this marriage certificate for his spousal sponsorship application to Canada.)

Thank you!

Looks like you need to book an appointment to get 1) the statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad and 2) any documents intended for use in Canada notarized :

Edit: I would trust the official website rather than random ones.

^ when I look further into the link for that specific in lieu of document, it states that the UAE is one that may not require this certificate? So I am unclear as to where I can confirm whether it is, in fact, needed or not.

It also says: you should confirm the requirements directly with the authorities of the country in which you intend to get married. You should ask the relevant authorities in UAE for confirmation.
