Why some people get fingerprints requests and others don’t?
Did anyone receive the fingerprints request, provided the fingerprints and got their background checked cleared already?

First step in background check is to run name and date of birth. If your name or other details are close to someone that has a criminal record or something like that, RCMP will request fingerprints because that is the only way to 100%make sure you either are or aren't the person with the records.

Those whose intial check using name and date of birth come back with no hits don't require fingerprints to clear them.

Hope this explanation helps.

What do you mean by “hits”? I’ve never even gotten a parking ticket. Why would there be a “hit” when they check my data?

This may be a reason, but it’s not the reason. I definitely would not match the name of anybody else.

It’s just random. I got a FPR and my wife did not. Same places we’ve lived for 15+ years. Same addresses. Her name is way more common than mine.

I asked cause I found somewhere online that they normally explain in the fingerprint request why they request it
Every letter mentions the same 2 sections of the act.

The primary reason for FP is as noted by @moman21. Additionally, IRCC may conduct fingerprinting as part of its quality assurance procedures, which involve asking for FP for a predetermined number of applications.

I have a very uncommon name and no criminal history at all. Zero arrests. So I assume mine is just random QA.

Hello.
Can you please advise?

Test Invite: January 21, 2025 (Test Window: 2025-01-23 - 2025-02-22)

Test Taken: January 23, 2025 (Passed: 18/20)

Still no updates whatsoever. I can see other people's timelines, and it takes an average of a week to mark the test as completed. Should I contact IRCC?

Because you may share similar details as someone who has a criminal history. So the fingerprints are to clear you and make absolutely sure you aren't that person.
If you know you have a clean record, then you have nothing to worry about. Submit your prints and all will be well.

Yes, if you're this anxious about it, call ircc and ask. It doesn't hurt to do so and would ease your anxiety.
