Hi. So we applied for PR in May and found out in July recently that the principal applicant is pregnant. We have lived in Canada for years and have no plans of leaving because we would like to raise our children here. How will this affect the application? Who do we need to update about this change? And how should we go about it even if it might not be essential to update the information

If the child is born in Canada, won't affect your PR application at all b/c child will be born a citizen.
If born outside Canada, usually not a problem but more steps involved to add child to your PR app.
The major issue is access to healthcare for your spouse depending on the province and their status.

What do you mean "we applied"? This is a Family Class Sponsorship section so we are assuming that one of you is the sponsor (already PR/citizen of Canada) and apply to sponsor your spouse.

(e.g. spouse of PR in Manitoba may or may not have healthcare coverage. Spouse of international student in Manitoba may or may not have healthcare coverage if spouse maintain status as student, i.e. actively studying full time)
Ok yes let me clarify for you. Husband is a citizen and wife is still on a student permit. Wife has health insurance from school and an individual insurance policy. Husband is covered under group insurance at work and has a Manitoba health card.
Applied for a pr for wife to get pr after we got married and a few months after applying, we found out that we are expecting. Our question is, do we have to update IRCC and if yes, how?
OK. So I think as long as you will continue to study, your student health insurance will cover for your delivery. Otherwise, I am not familiar with Manitoba's health coverage for PR/citizen's spouse. (BC will NOT cover the cost unless the sponsor application has reach a certain stage. It's different in each province)
Work extended insurance will only cover on top of the provincial insurance.
You do not need to inform IRCC after you found out that you are expecting. You can update IRCC after the child is born and the child will already be Canadian so he/she is not part of the application.
Actively studying FT and when do her studies end? Did she recently start studying because that can also create coverage issues?
