Hello,
Would be grateful if anyone can answer this.
Here's the situation:
I have a visitor visa that's valid for 10 years, I am authorized to stay up to 6 months, also I have an option to extend my stay for another 6 months (staying with my children who are PR).
After the 1 year stay is over and I need to leave Canada, am I allowed to travel to say Dominican Republic or such and then re-enter Canada? Would this count as a new timeframe for 6 months stay? The link below it says I can't go to the US and Miquelon, Saint Pierre but no information on other countries.

Just considering my options,
Thanks a lot
Best

You are can travel anywhere. Once you return to Canada, you will be asseesed as a new visitor to Canada and it will be up to CBSA if and how long you are allowed into the country. If you spend a year in Canada, then you would want to leave for at least 6-8 months before trying to return for another trip. Otherwise it will look like you are trying to live in Canada.

There isn’t a guaranteed 6 month stay and there isn’t a guaranteed 6 month extension either. You can be given an up to 6 month stay on entry as a visitor and you can try to extend your stay right before the first stay expires. As already indicated you can live permanently in Canada just visit.
