My background check is in process and I just submitted additional documents as requested. I am in Canada and my spouse just went back to our home country for urgent matters. When they ask for passport request, does my souse have to be in Canada ? I would greatly appreciate your expert advice. Thanks in advance

You and your dependents won’t receive passport requests if application was filled in Canada. Instead you will become Permanent Residents through an online process which does require you to be physically present in Canada.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. When I submitted my application then my souse and one child were in India and my other child was with me in Canada. My spouse and child then came to Canada as they have 10 years multiple entry visitor visa, now my spouse is gone back to india for some urgent work. Would anything change in that case?

In this case as you were in Canada and still are in Canada it shouldn’t be an issue. They would follow standard procedure and you should receive portal instructions where you would need to declare that your you and your dependents are in Canada. Those that are in Canada will be landed through the portal and become PR and those that are outside Canada they would ask you to provide a return date for them and they would become PR when they get back and complete the landing process through the portal.

Hello everyone, does anyone have a similar timeline, not sure why there has not been any update on my application for past 3 months now.

Sudbury RNIP (Common-law Application)

RNIP Application Submitted - 3rd April,2023

RNIP Recommendation Received - 27th June,2023

Federal Application Submitted - 7th July,2023

AOR Received and Biometrics Request - 1st August,2023

Biometrics Submitted and Update Received - 2nd August,2023

Nothing shows on the online portal, just says We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you. Not sure who to contact to know why its delaying, as the initial processing was pretty fast.

Hey there, my situation is similar. Applied in Sudbury, no updates on my application besides the request to provide for biometrics. One of my friend has also been waiting for her pr card for about 2 months now :/. Maybe it has to do with the location.
