If you really want to live the western life, feel free to have/not have your identity(nationality, religion, etc) - but stop worrying about the image. Think about the maturity of someone who is going to generalize a very large population based on limited experiences. I don't think most of these people go way too far in lives, and they are unlikely to be someone who will ever impact our lives.
Of course, racists will always be racists. I agree with your point about generalisations and stereotypes but they don’t come out of a vacuum. There is some truth in that. I’m speaking from personal experience because I’ve lived in the gulf for very long period of time. We, as a people (Indians), do not respect ourselves. It’s why a lot of countries view us as cheap labour and slaves. It’s an unfortunate reality. Of course, not all of us are like that but a sizeable number of us are beggars. We will do anything to move to a western country or just get the hell out of India. There’s no point in the chest thumping displayed by our politicians when we haven’t solved the root cause of why a lot of people feel this way. Also, it’s okay to call out the bad actions of your community or anyone else in public. Imagine kids, who are supposedly the future of this world, hounding government officials on the internet on a regular basis and begging them. You think awful behaviour like this should be encouraged? Imagine a prospective employer seeing this.

Some do. If you watch 90 day fiance, you can what some dudes willing to lower themselves for a green card. It's deeper than that though but not something I'm bothered to type out here. It's a conversation to be had over some beers and weed
There was a report of where a person from Punjab married his own sister in order to get an Australian visa. Here’s the link:

I think you aren't being critical of your country, you are "feeling shame". Those two are very different things. See, I do way better than most(I'm a cutthroat professional), I don't feel shame in anything, and it gets harder to see why some Indians feel that way. "smelly", "poorly dressed", "begging", etc - won't harm me, it won't harm Canadians - If someone is going to treat you poorly/differently because of these reasons that's because they've a problem, not because of you/anyone else.

>Imagine kids, who are supposedly the future of this world, hounding government officials on the internet on a regular basis and begging them.

Ask yourself:
1. is it illegal?
2. will it directly impact me?

If the answer is no, move on and stop worrying yourself over things that don't matter too much. If you don't, you will eventually become similar to those that you criticize back home. Calling out dangerous and illegal activities is our civic duty, but anything else can easily cross the line.

I'll admit that I'm going very soft on students. When I see the insane amount of hate they get, I no longer want to be one of those that hate them blindly. A lot of these are pseudo-standards tbh. At the end, don't we live in a democratic country where people can rightfully ask the govt for something?

How bad is Punjab? Seems like they are desperate to move abroad
Punjab is literal opposite of bad. It is among the better parts of India. Clean cities, well built roads, lots of farms. Fairly well do to people. Pretty girls. Decent public education. Close of the capital of India.

The desperation is just peer pressure.

Remember, poors in India have no chance of emigrating.

Man. You must be the most nationalistic Indian ever to live outside of India. The way you voraciously defend bad actions and attack anyone who says the truth about specific actions of India and Indians, Modi would personally invite you to join his cabinet. He would probably charter a private jet to bring you back to India. Lol. It’s fine. You can continue your personal attacks on me.

India becoming such a great place under the new premier it is shocking the folks from the better parts want to leave. I was always of the opinion lambdas come for dodgy mafia ridden places.

Its always the rich / well to do that leave for greener pastures. Even in China that had happened a lot in 2000s and China was growing way faster than India did and Chinese had the handicap of english abilities at that time.

India has a legacy of revering foreign settled folks and cursing our own government and public services.

After coming to Canada, while I found some of that to be true, I also found a lot of thing that I take for granted in India is not true in Canada or US for that matter. Things like cheap mobile internet, good banking experience, access to medical specialists for a fee, house help etc. But environment and its health impact, care for people with disabilities, protection and respect for private property, civil order is way there in a different league.

But People fleeing China do that for the freedom of speech, expression and communist dictators, India from what I hear is a free country like the USA. Ya it has religious' supremacy problems same as Americas race baiting. So the rich folks from Punjab can it because of the religious' clashes too?

Not really for religious reasons but because foreign lands are considered better or rather more prestigious places.

Some Instagram reels from Punjabis garnered a huge number of likes and comments of praises and support recently.

They were all praising Canada, praising the opportunity it gave to the "poor people of India" to make a life, if not here then at least back home.
These videos also mocked the "rich" folk (like us on this forum here) for calling Canada out and also tell them to leave.

The way I see it, Punjabis and majority of the new immigrants are actually living the expat life of Gulf countries. Slog it out, save every penny and build stuff back home. And look we can debate for ages if they're happy or not, but I do sense a general sense of gratefulness in them.
That cannot be bad whichever way you slice it.

Also, India is absolutely a horrible place to be for a median wage earner. All the Indians here have probably never experienced the proper middle class life, the 4 member of a family travelling on a single scooter type thing.

Post covid, the K shape recovery there is shocking. The rich have gotten so much richer that it's baffling. Public recruitment is a mess and it is the highest employment provider in the country!

And Punjab is a state with higher unemployment than normal in India I think. Plus they have a very very nasty narcotics problem. Yes they are obsessed with coming here but its not all without good reason.

I just read somewhere that India's unemployment rate "officially" has hit almost 10%
10% of a billion plus people! India has more unemployed people than Canada's population x2 jeez.
