Does it make a difference which university you are going to when it comes to the approval of study permit ? i got into a program at the university of alberta in which from the pool of 800 applicants only 50 got selected and its mentioned on my offer letter. will that play a significant role ? of course keeping in mind that i meet all the other admissibility criteria, specially proof of funds.

Sure, the university can make a difference. For example, attending a public university like you are gives you a higher chance of approval than a private university like University Canada West.
