My OCI was received in Toronto on April 13th (DOA - March18th) but no update on BLS's website since then. I have to travel to India on Friday and hence the urgency. Called BLS support number they said its still with Consulate. God knows what they are doing siting with the OCI document for 5 days now.
Try calling the consulate. their number is written on the surrender certificate. read earlier about same condition as well and that person was able to collect it from consulate in toronto.

Hey brother do u have any idea when can i start tracking on the OCI website. like how much time for the acknowledgement thing.
First follow-up on BLS webiste In a day or 2 its should say Processing at Consulate General
When that happens track the status on OCI website: https://ociservices.gov.in/statusEnqury, but please first updates will only be around 20+ days or so first with a date of acknowledgement.

30+ days after that Document printing status gets updated (around this stage OCI# gets generated)
2-3 days later Dispatch from MEA
2-3 days later Documents received at gets updated with a date..

Once this is completed circle back on BLS website and tarck the status of your application which should be ready for pick/couriered within a week from the above date

so all in all 2 mahina lagega..

Applicant Name
File Reference Numberxxxxx
Date Of Acknowledgmentxxxxx
Registration Status at MissionTORONTO
OCI Numberxxxxx
Documents Printing StatusPROCESSEDOnxxxxx
Dispatched From MEA (OCI )NEW DELHIOnxxxxx
Document received AtTORONTOOnxxxxx

Once the OCI website updates to OCI is processed and printed, you should be able to collect the OCI document in about a week.
If you still do not see a tracker update on BLS website i.e. "Ready for collection" you can email the following:
to enquire about the OCI pickup

@abbas.pasha is it possible to get OCI in India after being there on entry visa for 6 months? Or would the bureaucracy and corruption be excessive?

Also is it still possible to submit renunciation and entry visa at the same time or has this changed?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know tbh because this statement is not very clear Foreign nationals cannot apply for OCI in India while on Tourist Visa, Missionary Visa and Mountaineering Visa. Moreover, the foreigner has to be ordinarily resident of India to be eligible to apply for OCI registration in India.
https://ociservices.gov.in/

You can apply for surrender and visa at the same time. My suggestion would be to only apply for surrender at BLS and apply for eVisa online https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Thanks. I read here that one can make an OCI application with the concerned FRRO, but I don't know anyone who has tried this. Short term visas can't be converted it seems only Entry Visa (x1) which permits long term stay in India would be eligible.

But the very thought of having to deal with Indian bureaucracy makes me shudder. I've had terrible experiences before.

In the worst case I would need to return to Canada and apply for OCI.

I think exit permit is only needed if you somehow acquire a foreign passport inside India and want to leave with it. I would hopefully be travelling on a Canadian passport.

Vanishes or.. made to vanish? :D anything possible in India!

Try tracking directly in Purolator with your file reference number, sometimes they don't update in BLS website.
