It's normal because most of those CEC candidates don't want to put extra effort. If one who graduated from Canadian university, worked 1 year in Canada (extra points for both) cannot get max IELTS (extra points here as well) and don't want to learn French to get extra points, then he/she can blame only themselves. In that sense, IRCC is pretty transparent. They didn't change points for those in Canada, didn't drop them out of draws by limiting to FSW only.

In ON, at least, if one graduated with Masters within last 2 (?) years, he/she can obtain PR through PNP. I would think that other provinces have something similar.
BC is more liberal. If you did a science or engineering Post Grad degree like masters from a univ or institution in BC in last 3 years, you do not even need a job offer. You get PNP just like that.

I read that competition for paper based OINP streams is very high because there are too many people here lol

Which is weird!

PNPs have about 86K approved places. A person on PGWP stands a very good chance to capture those places. Its simply that a lot of SP -> PGWP -> CEC are getting out competed even though a similar person owing to their canadian education and work exp gets about 15 points more (486 vs 501 for a under 30, masters holding, 1 year work exp (outside Canada vs in Canada). If employer agrees for LMIA or has a LMIA on hand, he can get 50 more points. If s/he has a job offer (LMIA not required), s/he can get 600 points via PNP.
While I disagree with the poster asking about CEC draws, as I explained in the thread, PNP is not an easy option at all for many people, because it's either NOC-based or even more competitive than Express Entry.

CEC is the best program for people with Canadian degrees and experience. It admits the most people and it's not limited by NOC.

If someone is not competitive enough for CEC, then of course seeking PNP makes sense. Or if someone easily qualifies for PNP. But for most candidates, CEC is the best and most realistic option.

Also, CEC candidates need to understand that FSW are not their competitors as much as the other CEC. A CEC candidate that has 500+ points is equally CEC as the one with 470. Selecting them over the 470 candidate is how the system works. At this point, I doubt even CEC only draws would lower the scores much.

How many points would one get with one year study in Canada and one year canadian work experience?

501 if you have perfect CLB 10 IELTS. But that assumes you don't have French or foreign work experience. If you have 1 year of foreign work experience in addition to the 1 year of Canadian, you get about 540 points or something in that range.

Also, this is assuming your highest degree is a Canadian master's

If your employer is supportive for doing a LMIA, you can get 50 more points.

Given that right now cutoff is 507 and they are doing 5500 invite rounds, it is likely such CEC (with 1 year exp and 501 points) will get invite.

If their english is still lacking, now is the good time to push those scores up. Its not impossible. We have likes of @mushymush who mastered FRENCH of all things to push his points up.

And then there is a nuclear option called PNP.

When do you think the next draw is? 25th of January right? Kubeir says it might be the 18th but I don't think they'll do two draws in a row. Did that ever happen haha?

I honestly don't know and my crystal ball in this sense is as bright as anyone else here and especially kubeir "SiR". I think they should follow their rhythm of 2 weeks but sometimes IRCC sings out of tune...

Yeah I'm not holding my breath. I'm at 498 points and getting very nervous haha. If they do it this Wednesday, I might get ITA but if it's 25th of Jan, I'll probably get it in the Feb draw. Very scared something is going to happen and they'll stop drawing. Did they ever do back to back weekly draws?

back to back draws are not unheard of, atleast pre covid it used to take place

Hi all,

Just wanted to pick your brain for a moment. I got my Canadian PR in August 2022. I also have H1B petition approved (EB1). I am debating between:

a) Go to Canada, get my citizenship in 4 years,

b) Schedule an interview and enter US on a H1 status.

Option a) is safer. Option b) takes 2.5 years (even though my country is current).

My eventual goal is to move to the US.

If you want to move to US, you move to US. Your country is current is a nice bonus. Just do it.

You only take Canada if you main goal was to move out of your country or like me, you want to live here.

Also, do you have masters degree? If not, may be now is a good time to get one if EB2-NIW helps your case.

Having Canadian citizenship will be nice but will make your tax situation a bit complicated if you really want to settle in USA.

Depends how risky or risk averse you are. You can move to US and try for Green Card but a Republican might get in 2024 and make life difficult (already 2023, crazy). On the other hand, if you don't you might always feel regret
