Thankfully I now have my IM-1 visa for permanent residency.

Clarifications:

1. Can I now travel to Canada because I have that beautiful full-page sticker in my passport, right? I do not require anything else, such as a PRTD, correct?

2. If transiting through the US to Canada (because of more affordable tickets) I must also apply for and receive an ESTA, right?

3. Also, to confirm, I am able to land in Canada, stay for some time, them return to my home country two weeks after I enter Canada. I will need my PR card or PRTD when I return to Canada, yes?

Thank you all for your guidance.

1. You should have got a COPR with that, you'll need that, and the photographs. But read the instructions you got back with the passport and visa.

2. You need whatever you need to get into the USA, yes.

3. Yes.

As the spouse of a Canadian you may also be asked about your permanent relocation plans if you are only doing a short landing. You likely had to show
proof that you would be permanently relocating to Canada to get PR because many couples didn’t actually relocate to Canada after receiving PR for their spouse. You will also need a permanent address to mail your PR card. If not planning on remaining in Canada you can be told that you will have to apply for your PR card when you move to Canada permanently although most are able to give the address of a family member or friend. It really depends on the agent you deal with at the border. You always have the option to apply for a PRTD. In some countries it currently can take up to a few months to get a PRTD so would suggest applying a few months in advance if you need a PRTD. You can also cross via land border without a PRTD or valid PR card. Time abroad with your spouse counts towards your RO but if you never relocate to Canada then counting time abroad with your spouse may not count.

My COPR says, "not valid for travel". This document, plus two passport-type photographs (signed, etc.), my passport with the new im-1 visa in it - these are the only documents needed for me to travel with?

(Thank you all for your help)

It's not valid for travel on its own. It's not a travel document. You will need it to land, however, that is, become a PR.

As for if anytihng else needed: don't think so. But still: read the instructions.
