HI,

My uncle, a surgeon, has lived in Canada for 30 years. He qualifies as a lonely relative and could sponsor me his nephew under the lonely relative program. I'm 31 and moving to Canada on a work visa early new year.

I've just received a 2 year work visa under the ICE program for Ireland, but would be interested in applying for PR as soon as possible independent of this with the lonely relative program.

Does anyone know if I can add my wife to this application as well? We are just recently married. According to the below, I believe you can add your spouse to the application? And is there normally any additional issues/programs immigration might have with an application like this, assuming we tick all the boxes as per the T&Cs?

Thanks

If your uncle qualifies as a lonely Canadian, then he can sponsor you. And your dependents are included in that sponsorship application.

Thank you. In your experience/from your knowledge, does immigration look kindly on such applications e.g. we are recently married. Would they deny it based on other factors not mentioned in the T&Cs.

Also how long is the processing time for such application? Thanks.

I don't have any experience with other relatives sponsorship application. It usually takes longer than "normal" spousal and dependent family sponsorship.

As long as your marriage is genuine, it will be OK. They likely will need similar proof and documents as spousal sponsorship. (living together, marriage certificate, wedding that's of size/practice to cultural norm...etc)

Wonder if a married couple must be living together? I know it's usually a requirement for a common law couple.

Oh... I guess if they are not living together, maybe there is explaination. I was assuming married couple lives together but I forgot that OP is working somewhere else.

I think it would need other proof like relationship development... anyway, not an expert on this.

Great thanks. Would be my uncle be responsible for her as well in the eyes of the government? That might be a possible issue (for him) in the sense that he doesn't know her well, so might not trust her.

Since your uncle is the sponsor and so both of you will be his undertaking. Maybe you should introduce them. He is the one filing the sponsorship application. Current undertaking for other relative is 10 years.
