Idea to send a paper appl was fine, I think. Just that you did not expect that they would cancel both the applications, if I understand correctly.

I am confused about whether I should change to paper or not. AOR July 2022. Based on your experience, do you think the following approach is fine:

1. Webform to withdraw online app.
2. Make a separate payment and get receipt. Use that to submit paper app. I am unsure if I should wait till the online app gets withdrawn or if it is okay to submit the withdrawal request and go ahead with paper app (since the payment is different).

Based on your experience, what do you think?

I think there is definitely a benefit to submitting with paper. The results are there for everyone to see - people who submitted with paper in June 2022 even have their oaths scheduled.

I didn't withdraw my app but if you go back a few pages in this thread you'll find people that did and you should be able to get info on how to do it from their posts

If you have AOR, then it's $500+ off. So they are only going to return you $100 if you withdraw, so think twice.

I am not quite sure what will happen if you only send the withdraw application without waiting. Sorry about that

Honestly, I'd say it's worth the $500 for quicker processing. Of course, more people should see this thread and apply on paper to begin with

To be honest, and if we use our brain it's pretty obvious what's going on...
they will close soon the paper applications to make it 100% online like for PR... so now they are doing the paper applications first and all paper applications will have the priority, then they will definitely close it and move to online.

I don't believe it. In fact, more people apply and will apply on paper because of its moving fast.

Why should someone who applied via paper in July 2022 already have their oath scheduled while someone who applied Online in June 2021 who only has AOR. Madness!!!!

Yeah this is what has been really infuriating and depressing for me about this process. A FIFO process is only fair. They should clear out the paper application backlog of 2020 and prior actually. Those are the folks who have been treated the most unfairly, still waiting after 2-3 years. But new paper applications should be processed more slowly than online to encourage people to apply online, or people are just going to keep applying by paper and they will never clear out the paper applications, now that more and more of us are seeing the great disparity in processing speeds and spreading the word.

Data, as given in the google sheet tells us about a significant decline in the percentage of single applicants applying online.
March 2022: online/single = 86% (Since only single applicants can apply online so far).
April : 96%
May: 92%
June: 96%
July: 86%
August: 77%

This is what IRCC must consider before setting realistic targets since there exists strategic interaction- applicants update their strategy after observing IRCC policy. Perhaps, this is the reason that IRCC is targetting considerably higher number of paper applications and the transition to online applications is a secoondary goal, primary being deflating the expected processing time by creating outliers in the form of 3-4 month processing of recent paper applciations.

This is the real crime. I don't care that they're processing paper applications faster. What I do care about is that they're not processing the applications of the unfortunate ones from early in the pandemic and keeping them stuck.

While I'm frustrated that my online application isn't progressing, my life decisions aren't bound by them. But if you ask me 2-3 years later if I'm still in this stage, I'm bound to be upset

Yes, what we all asking for is a simple FIFO policy.... If it takes 4 years to process an application, be it.. but can they commit themselves to a true/strict FIFO policy (without tinkering the meaning of FIFO for their whims and fancies) , is seems to be a million dollar question.

If they can present improved processing times by quickly processing lots of new applicants then they'll look good in the media. Like with all due respect if they can process 2022 applicants in 4 months then why are there any 2019 or 2020 applicants still waiting? Nothing IRCC does makes any sense

If by any chance IRCC improves its processing time to 12 months or so, does that mean that as soon as an application crosses the 12 month limit, the applicant can try to question (perhaps with the help of a lawyer) why there is a delay (and hopefully get them to make a decision quickly)? Just trying to see if there is some silver lining with the way things are going right now.

PS: Just checked the thread(s) related to this. Looks like it is an extremely expensive process with low/random success rate. Oh well….
