please DO NOT travel to India on your Indian passport once you have acquired your Canadian Citizenship (in fact once you have completed your oath ceremony to be precise) - you will not be able to exit India since your PR card is cut & gone & you dont have a Canada visa either.

You need to apply for a India Tourist visa (single entry - 30 days validity from date of entry) or Entry Permit (multiple entry, 6 months validity overall). You should get it in time for your travel. You can apply for your surrender certificate and India visit in the same visit to BLS.

PS: surrender certificate has no role to play in the visa process. So you dont need to do this sequentially. OCI is dependent on surrender certificate.
I did apply for 6 month entry visa for my newborn on August 31 st via postal and got visa in hand on September 15th. Incase if this helps.

We applied in Brampton on August 26th. I don't even see acknowledgment yet on OCI website. Is it normal. When we called BLS they said applications are sent to CGI Toronto on Aug 29th.

Is anyone here applied on Aug 26th, still waiting for acknowledgment. Thanks
I think the best option would be reaching out to CGI with Application Reference Number.

Surrender certificate is now mandatory for tourist visa.

They still have suspended the evisa program for Canadian citizens

Hi guys,

I applied for the Indian Visitor visa through post. I made a silly mistake. I am a Canadian Citizen.

I have entered 'Surrey' as the 'City of birth' instead of Delhi. I entered the correct information in 'The Country of birth' field. Will it be an issue? Please advice.

Hi guys

on passport India’s website there is an option for people to surrender their passport/renounce citizenship here in india.

i have been invited to take Canadian citizenship oath - however hey have asked me to appear for oath on sept 27 which is not possible for me. I am about to write to IRCC and ask them if I can take video oath from india. Or if they can issue me a date for week of oct 10, as this will give me time to travel.

my question is,as I require to come back to india soon after my oath etc - what would be the fastest route??

should I apply for surrender certificate in BLS along with entry visa and then do OCI in india? I heard we have to wait for 6 months in india once we enter on foreign passport and only then apply for oci. It’s confusing because I work in india and am not sure how to navigate this paperwork process.

Please help.

Did a Walk in visit to BLS Brampton for OCI applications. Arrived at 6:40 AM , there were nearly 18 people ahead of me. Got in at 8:20 AM and was done by 8:40 AM. Not bad considering it took total 2 hours including the wait time. Thanks to all who recommended to reach early in the morning.

After oath, you will get citizenship certificate within 5 days. Apply for Canadian passport immediately. If you're in Ontario visit Kitchener passport office, they have smallest queue. You will get passport in 2 weeks, you may get it in 2 days also if you show your urgency. Once you receive passport, get indian travel visa, may get in 5 to 10 days.
You can surrender passport immediately after getting the citizenship certificate. Can get this done within 2 weeks.
Request for Canadian passport and surrender of Indian passport can be done in parallel.

Sorry for reposting but getting a bit anxious since the travel is around the corner. When does the status change on bls from (Counter Delivery to BLS Centre after OCI stamping) to ready for collection? It has been 4 days
