Hello!
I will finish my degree in December this year and will then apply for a PGWP. My study permit is valid until March. I was planning to visit my family in Germany over Christmas. Is leaving and re-entering Canada an issue while in between visas? Would I still be able to work while on an interim status?

Thanks in advance!

You need either a valid eTA or TRV to be able to return to Canada. You can't return on your study permit.

Thanks! And I would be able to work when I return and my pgwp is still processing?

I'm not sure about that. Normally you only have maintained status if you don't leave Canada.

Hi! Just as Scylla said, you'll need a valid TRV to re-enter Canada.

Secondly, your maintained status shall start after you apply for your PGWP and your current study permit expires.

As per my personal experience, I applied for my PGWP and departed for my home country in April 2022. I returned approximately 1 month before my study permit and TRV were to expire. The border agent let me through when I showed them the submission receipt of my PGWP application and my still valid study permit with TRV, and said that I could work full time until a decision was made after checking my details in the system. Good luck!
