If you have applied in 2020 and have crossed 27 month mark prepare a case for 'Writ Mandamus' in a federal court making IRCC, the defendent. They should respond and give to writing to the court as to how long they will take to resolve your case. I wish more applicants band together and start litigating IRCC as they lost their privilege to vote in federal, and provincial elections and were unable to travel or apply for jobs that require citizenship, only due to sheer negligence of IRCC. Nothing against new applicants but It's also unfair to process applications, that were received after 2020 applicants at much faster rate while making those that applied first wait for no fault of their own.
I agree. Those who have crossed or are approaching the 27 month mark should file Writ of Mandamus
See the discussion in the May 2020 applicants thread for one person recently started the process, which at least seems to have gotten IRCC to look at their file:

I wonder if it would be possible for a group of people to file together and if that would have a greater effect, like a class action lawsuit.
Apparently there is already a (relatively long!) thread about this:

Good to see someone excercising their right.

That can be done. However, caution must be excercised to ensure that plantiffs have similar background whose applications are deemed 'routine'.

Good point. Maybe applicants at similar stages can also join together. It's rather disturbing to see people like @Saki2020 and a few other 2020 applicants who have been waiting since December or January with DM for oath. DM supposedly means that we already have been approved, and the only step left is the oath, right?!! I'm starting to doubt that, after seeing people waiting 7+ months and worrying that I myself will be in that same boat still waiting next year. I don't see why IRCC schedules oath for some people the day after DM (and most people within like 3 weeks after DM), while some people wait months and months with no end in sight - makes me wonder if they actually have flagged our applications for something non-routine.

I passed my test in October 2021 (May 2020 Ottawa applicant) and I am still waiting to hear about my oath. I think I am a routine applicant - just an unlucky one! I think that the Madamus is expensive enough process. As of Monday I am 27 months in process - its very frustrating and disappointing! Lets keep each other up to date!

This seems like very short notice -......
Evidence that even time from oath invite to oath is quite variable, from a couple days to 2 months! Means we are literally on call and cannot travel or plan any all-day events pretty much from the time we have DM if not exam.

Flying out of Canada today in a few hours and will be away for couple of months. I don't know how the heck I'm going to plan my return, if they resort to these sort of shenanigans.

If you're unlucky like me, your oath invite will come while you're away and when airline screwups if not COVID resurgence and travel restrictions prevent you from coming back in time! I hope, though, that you have better luck and are able to enjoy your trip and get oath invite shortly after your return.

I don't know man. IRCC never failed to disappoint me. A friend of mine who applied 10 months after me has called me today to tell that he just received his citizenship certificate.

May 2020 applicant, November test done, everything completed end of January. I had an email of being put on list for the oath June 20th and this morning received an email offering an In-person public ceremony at the redblacks stadium during halftime of a football match on the 21st July or if not video ceremony in the near future. Did anyone else receive same email? I have replied for the in person, because that date is set and also the certificate will be handed there.
Good luck to anyone
Are they back to in-person ceremonies? this is great to know.

How long does it normally take to receive test invite after background checks are done? It is moving a lot slower than what I have seen at other processing centers to receive their test invite shortly after BG are complete.

Normally test invite comes very soon after background check is complete (within a few days if not the same day). But for a handful of people, it can take a couple weeks, or even longer.

There seems to be no method to the madness - the timelines seem to vary for each individual. For instance, in my case (family application - 2 adults and a child) the test invite came 5 months after the Background check was updated to complete!
