Guys to people who had came thru with an agency . Did you disclose your hiv status to any agent? or did you just disclose it on the medical? Has there at any chance to know your status to the agent that handled you if you will hide to them? I'm in my preparation now for the January 2023 Intake for student. Please give me an insight, Thank you.

I wish there has any group on Facebook or any social media for the Filipinos living with HIV in Canada that is tailored to international students and for PR.

Hi all, first of all I want to thank you each one of you for being helpful to so many people out there as there is lilttle to no information is there on such topic I wish I would have found this thread much earlier.

I am also planning to study in Canada below are my questions.

1. You guys applied with the help of agents or this can be done on our own?

2. I have done my Bcom(Honours) and MCom from India (commerce) which course should I select as I have already done my masters in India.

2. I am still in dilemma if would be eligible to get PR after my studies are completed?

Hello everyone. I'm sorry for not being able to follow up on this. I would like to let you know that my visa application got approved. My medical was completed after my sputum test result came out negative. I also got clearance from St Lukes infectious disease doctor and signed some form that they had to send to Immigration (which is already part of the SOP for PLHIV). My visa was just released this week, I'm supposed to fly to Canada this May but because of personal matters I will be taking my first term online while in the Philippines and will just fly by the end of term in August. If you have any questions feel free to reply. I will be happy to help you with anything you'd like to know about this.

Best of luck to everyone and don't let this hinder you from achieving greater things in life.

Amrit_92, I got the visa without any problems.
They run the blood tests to check your CD4 and viral load. If these are okie, there should be no problem. I wasn't even asked to show expenses for my medicines, as told by few lawyers and doctors. Although I had mentioned this in my SOP that the medical and medicines will be taken care by my family.
I have brought 3 months supply of ARV. After three months, my MSP kicks in and the ARVs will be covered by that free of charge. (this is for British Columbia). I had applied the visa using my admission letter from Concordia University which is in Montreal, Quebec. Quebec doesn't cover the whole cost of ARVs, but there are many resources where you can get it for free. I have few contacts there. I can help you with that if u are planning to go to Quebec.
From this experience I have realized that, HIV isn't a big deal with Canada, if your CD4 count is good and Viral load is undetectable.
They do make an issue with TB. So better do the Gamma Interferon test for TB because an HIV positive person will definitely be prescribed that.
Also, please inform your doctor about your status so that there are no delays and the additional tests for CD4 and viral load be done quickly.
Any question. Let me know.
Hi Bro,

how much did you cost for your medical?

Hi there. We share exact timelines. My sputum test was in October 26, 27 and 28. My final xray was on January 20 and I was referred to the pulmonary specialist who cleared me around February. I also had my health information (CD4 count and undetectability status) sent to IRCC alongside the specialist report.

Since February 18, I haven't received any updates. Just my medical status changing from "an action is required" to "medical under review". It's been 3 months and 2 weeks.

I've sent mails, web forms, used an MPs office and ordered my GCMS file. I keep getting told my application is "under review" and "in queue for processing". I don't think I've ever been this frustrated in my life.

Hello congrats, where did you get your medical treatment? I was planning to study in Canada specifically Alberta, I’ve read that the meds are covered there. Also, how do you state in your SOP that you are PLHIV? Thank you and goodluck

Hi, i’m currently applying for a student visa to study in Toronto. I’ve been positive with hiv since July last year and become undetectable this January 2022. My CD4 count is not that high. Already paid my tuition.

I just finished my medical exam, upfront last June 1. I disclosed my condition to the doctor and the doctor for Infectious Disease. Gave them all the certificate such as the confirmatory result of hiv diagnosis, undetectable test result and cd4 count.

I was requested also to do additional test for hepa and tb. Sadly, I need to do the sputum test this July for three consecutive days and the result of that test will be released after 2 months. That might become a major conflict on my timeline since my intake is this Nov. 2022.

I will request a copy of my test result on the clinic this June last week so I‘ll stop being paranoid about it and so I can also foresee proper adjustment on my timeline.

Will share my journey and experience here when it unfolds. Hoping for a good one.
