Hi,
Asking for a friend.
Her parents (in China) got their PR visa (she sponsored them) and the visa expiry Aug. 6/2022, they still have something to sort out in China and may come end of this year, do they have to let immigration know now or will they be able to extend the visa expiry date? I told her that they can land and then go back but she said Chinese govt. make it so hard to go back, they need to quarantine for 2 weeks when they fly back. So, my question will immigration extend the visa expiry date or not?

Thanks

Generally, IRCC will not extend. It's use it or lose it.

I would recommend they send a webform ASAP to ask if an extension is possible. They should be prepared to travel and land before August 6th if IRCC says no or if they receive no response.

Make sure you use your COPR before it expires.

When we approve your application, you must travel to Canada to become a permanent resident before the expiry date on the COPR document. Once a COPR expires, if you still want to immigrate to Canada, you need to

  • submit a new permanent residence application
  • pay all fees, and
  • meet any requirements in effect when you apply again

Looks like the temporary covid policy has been lifted and everything back to normal. Ppl used to send webform to indicate they were not able to travel during covid and send another webform once they are ready to travel. IRCC will pickup and ask for medical and PCC (if needed) and issue a fresh COPR. Not any more. Now they have to apply from scratch.

I don't know what's the indication on PGP as it's lottery based. Not sure if they will be granted a second chance. Stakes are too high. Better get prepared to land.

I think compare to applying from scratch, the 2 weeks quaratine is likely worth it...
May be they can ask someone to handle some of the process to sort things out at home and do some of those remotely.
