Hi,
Recently there has been posts suggesting IRCC pausing applications, especially after online test, until the applicant returns to Canada. This seems to be a recent development and experiences are few and far between. It would be a good idea to track such experiences in a single thread.
Even if someone posts in a monthly tracker thread, please try to provide a line here.

Thank you.

Thank you for creating this thread!

I have received my AOR a month ago, and I am planning to go outside Canada for a few months. I have questions though:

Will this be a good move right now, especially when am expecting the citizenship test to happen end of March? Can they deny your request to give the Test from outside Canada?

From what I've read since last night in this forum, many are able to take the tests from outside Canada, but there has been some who reported IRCC asking about return to Canada for scheduling the oath ceremony.

Please provide recent experiences of applying from abroad. It will help lot of people who are anxious to understand the implications of moving abroad for work while the application is in process.

Over two weeks ago I got an email from IRCC (Montreal Office) stating:

(IRCC) to continue the process of your citizenship application, scanned copies or photos of all passport(s) and travel document(s) pages held during your eligibility period are required.

The required documents must be sent when you return to Canada as you will need to respond to this email with your last name, First Name and File Number and provide evidence of your departure from Canada and arrival abroad, as well as your departure from and return to Canada, such evidence could be, but is not limited to, your boarding passes and travel itineraries.

So, I returned to Canada sent the documents as requested within two days and NO reply since then.
I wonder if IRCC can demand you to get back to Canada or will pause the application, is it even Legal??
I am now in the waiting game with IRCC.

I have given my test from abroad. I had to email and ask them if I can take it, within hours I got a reply letting me know I could. So i gave my test in December and then in February, I got an email Request For Information asking me when I'm returning to complete my application.
I explained I couldn't come back soon so I requested them if I could take my oath from abroad.
Not a peep since.
I've sent webforms, emails to the same email address from my local office and an email to the same email I had requested for my citizenship test.
Nothing. No reply.
Does anyone here know a good immigration lawyer I can hire to take this over for me?

Has anyone taken an oath from abroad on here? I'd like to know when the most recent one was done.

The request for passport is reasonable but instructing that it should be submitted only when you return to cannot is not reasonable, if not illegal. I suggest to hire a lawyer and respond.
I did speak with an attorney couple of months back and he said, he was dealing with such a request for one of his clients and the law firm was taking up the issue with the minsters office.

The lawyer is from the same form that runs this forum, however they refused to take up my representation because they only deal with clients who file the application through them.

Well, that's concerning. How do we go about finding some help with this then, specially being abroad?

They have no right to do so. I took both test and interview outside Canada. The agent also said to take oath outside Canada, you must send a request to Registar of Canadian Citizenship.

And did you do that? How did you go about doing it?
Did they send you the same email they sent me Requesting for more Info and asked when you're coming back?
I'm sorry for all the questions, but you're the first person who seems to be exactly in my boat.

I told them not to put my file on hold (they have no right to do so); I said I can't give a date of return due to medical conditions (I'm not obligated to do so).
Local office only used one email address. Their decision can always be challenged.

And how do I go about doing this? They've straight up left me on read when I said I can't give a return date and need it done from abroad. Zero replies to countless emails and webforms sent. I'm losing my mind here not knowing and am so scared I'll be losing my PR status if it's not done soon. And I can't quit a job here and sit there in Canada waiting for them for god knows how many months!
