Thank you for your thoughtful comment, I have much respect for you to have the appreciation for my service, yes I do have a Target on my back because I serviced with the Canadian forces, and I'm proud but what really hurts is that I can't even renew my residency. I wanna serve this country and if I can save lives this is very honorable to me.
Just a little technical thingy I'd like to point out is that your PR status is valid for life, as such there is no need to renew it. The PR card is not your residency, it's like a passport, it's sole legal purpose is to facilitate travel outside Canada.

While you can't renew your PR card until you have 730 days in Canada, you are still a Permanent Resident of Canada. There is no "renewing your residency." Think of it like citizenship, the PR card is like a passport, just because you don't have one, does not mean you're not a citizen.

You mentioned you were required to stay outside of Canada to attend to your sick mother. This is an acceptable H&C reasons for not meeting the RO, so when the time comes you may be able to overcome your RO violation due to this. You will need to maintain excellent records documenting your entire stay with her so things like hospital records, doctor/specialist notes outlining her condition and your need to be with her, your day to day activities caring for her, showing there was nobody else to take care of her, etc etc.
This will offer more to eventually keep your PR status, than your volunteer work as a locally engaged person.

Also if it ever came down to applying on H&C means or if you were ever rejected and needed to appeal, emphasizing your service to the Canadian military and the dangers you faced certainly couldn't hurt. If anything a visa officer or appeals judge may have more sympathy and respect to your situation and be more lenient.
