Work permit from inside Canada / approval time

Dear Community,

I'm planning to move to Canada and I would like to ask several questions. I did some research but some things aren't clear.

I'm from Hungary so I don't need a temporary residence visa to enter. I know that if I go to Canada as a tourist, I can submit applications to any companies and they can give me a job offer if they want to employ me.
Then I have to get an LMO from HRSDC and if I got it, the CIC will probably give me a work permit.
Although I can't get my work permit as a tourist inside Canada, I pass through the US border and simply go back to the Canadian border, and the officer will give my work permit and register that I entered Canada as an authorized worker (preferred to be permanent over temporary).

But one thing makes me confused. Although I can submit my WP application inside Canada, it will be progressed outside of Canada, because I'm a foreigner. It wouldn't be so nice to travel back to central Europe again just because of the interview with the visa office in Vienna.

Can I just go to the US from Canada and submit my WP application for instance in New York?
I guess I can send the papers to the office with Fedex but if they call me for an interview, I want this happening in the US. An airplane ticket from Canada to Hungary is expensive and time-consuming (and makes no sense in my opinion).
I would have an ESTA in case of travelling to the US, that's not a problem for me.

The other thing what makes me wonder is the processing time of the WP application.
The CIC website mentioned that it may take several weeks or even several months to get it approved.

I really doubt that an employer would wait 4-5 months for a worker. Why would they do that?
I know that the HRSDC requires the employer to advertise the job for at least 2 weeks, and if they don't find suitable canadian citizens or PR's, then they can hire me.
Well, ok, it's 2 weeks. But I don't beleive that they can't find any canadians during my several months processing delay either.
I would apply for multinational manufacturing companies and they do not like to wait for anything, usually when I had to change positions inside the company the operations manager or the engineering manager called me to the office and said that I'm in a new position with tomorrow. This happened 3 times in my last company.
So I don't think a canadian employer will wait for me several months. I think it's very unrealistic.

Also it's not obvious if I can stay in Canada is visitor while my WP application is under processing.

My skills, experiences, knowledge:

- I'm 27 years old, not married, and I don't have a university diploma but a high-school graduation in economics

- One and a half years in GE Consumer and Industrial, Inc. as LEAN Specialist
- Four years and two months in Jabil Circuit, Inc. as Engineering Technician, SMT Support Specialist, LEAN Facilitator, SMED Project Leader

- High skills in IT / Computing. Currently learning .NET C# programming (beginner yet)
- I worked for GSC Game World on the STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl as scripter, tester (not widely accepted because of the very specialized programming language)

- My english isn't perfect but usually I don't have problems with understanding each other with english people (I wrote this post without anyone's help and without looking into a dictionary, etc.)

First I would like to work for Canadian companies what are similar to GE. Then later I will want to change to programming when I'll be expert (within 3 years).

Do you think I have chances in Canada? I think I have, since LEAN Manufacturing / Toyota Production System is very popular worldwide, although I don't have a certificate of it but approx. 6 years experience.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi Friend,

May i ask why you give your resume in the website?

This website is only for a dialog about Immigration in Canada. I'm a new in the website,

The main reason to contact you is due to your situation is nearly a similar as mine.

I came to Canada with a Visa Visitor since July, 2010. My wife has short a Student Visa.

I got a job in the same area where I’m working.

The Human resource at the company is waiting for my WP to be issue.

I applied for my wife to extend her study whilst i applied for work permit.

Finally got letter that my documents has been transferred to Local Immigration Office for

further assessment,

I think probably for an interview to make their decision or make an inquiry about school that she registered in it. I really don’t know.

I'm confused too; don’t know what i have to do. Shall I stay or come back to my previous work…..

I'm thinking if they don’t response me during a limit time. I will leave the country.

It’s an easy for me to a get job as i have a sufficient an experience, but it’s not easy to get

WP in Canada

I don’t know if any body has an experience to share his idea with us

Hi,

I posted the key sentences of my resume as a question. I hope that someone will give me feedback. I'd like to make sure if it's worth to submit it to canadian companies.
I never been there.

My main question is related to the approval time, because it's hard to believe that big companies like GE will wait for me for months. Maybe I'm wrong. That's why I posted here.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Since you are visa exempt to Canada, you can apply for your work permit at the border and you get it instantly. First you need the LMO approved, then you take the LMO and $150, go to the US border, flagpole, come back to Canada and apply for your work permit which you get right away.
