What's the standard timeline after you have submitted your medical?!

Hey,

My mother is the principal applicant. She applied for nomination in 2009. We were just asked to submit Medical, some additional documents and the right of permanent residence fee and we have done all that just last week. I wanted to ask if there is still a chance of our application being rejected or are we pretty much through and just have to wait for them to ask for our passports?

Also, we are trying to get our academic documents attested and verified. Is it necessary to get the most recent degree verified from the Foreign Affairs or just HEC verification would do?
