Immigrants in Canada must support relatives they sponsor

According to the new policy of the government, sponsor will be responsible financially as well as legally for the immigrant he will sponsor to the country.

Recently it has been noticed that there has been increase in cases when immigrants of the country who sponsors their relatives to the country and after in leave them and do not support them further.

It is sustain the reliability of the country’s immigration process and its working the people who sponsor their family members to Canada, should not break their promises on the legal as well as the moral basis and should further support them well in the new country. Usually the relations who come in through the family reunification program and left not supported by those who have brought them. Then their wives, parents or the grandparents start seeking the social assistance provided by the government.

As the immigrants do not support them they go for public assistance services and hence increasing the public cost and adds to the burden of the country.
Currently the Supreme Court of the country has come up with a decision that the federal and provincials now are authorized recover the expenditure from the ones who have sponsored them to the place.

Justice Ian Brinne wrote that if there is any problem by the immigrant who came by the sponsorship it all responsibility lies with the sponsor.

The government under their program has provided the numerous privileges to the sponsored immigrants. They have permitted these immigrants after getting their permanent residence to sponsor their blood relations partners, parents, grandparents and children to the country and are suppose to support them for three years.

Recently around three out of eight sponsors are found the victims who are left by their sponsors. But the sponsors are only allowed to bring their relatives on condition that they will support them for coming three years irrespective of change in their relationship. They will be responsible for them for their financial matters at of the cases even if the spouses are separated.

From now on the sponsored immigrants cannot make their separation as an excuse to use the government services and not paying the taxes. Now the sponsors should be very careful while sponsoring somebody as their now they will be responsible for the person legally and financially. Now if the person has come then the responsibility can shed off.

The government should now make it clear to every sponsor about their responsibility. They are also supposed to tell timings of the payment in case there is any hardship for the immigrant.

IT sector jobs in Canada aplenty despite bleak jobs scenario

Job market in Canada is quite bleak. Most employers prefer to hire employees having Canadian Experience. Thus new immigrants are already at disadvantage.

However, despite weak job market, certain skill sets are in high demand. Software developers, Web designers, animators, embedded systems specialists, semiconductor, messaging specialists, and JAVA developers are in high demand.

Job scenario in Canada is sending jitters to natives and Immigrants in Canada alike. More specifically, immigrants hunting for financial, marketing and advertising, factory and even engineering jobs are facing tough time. Since numerous organizations are affected by the credit crunch, employment possibilities are scarce.

Many corporations have already cut jobs, however, people who perform in the technology sector, particularly in info technological innovation, need to not be that worried.

Therefore, immigrants having IT skills who are in search of employment in the technological sector, will not be a lot affected by the economic issues.

In fact, there are elevated work possibilities in this sector, as businesses are seeking for methods to enhance efficiency when it comes to information storage, quality assurance, and other IT services. Even so, the future may possibly not look as rosy for chief information officers and other senior managers in the IT marketplace. IT professionals are probably the only sector that has not yet experienced either a pay cut or termination due to redundancies in the job.

Some of the data technological innovation jobs that will remain robust despite the credit crunch are in pc programming, testing and systems analysis, IT services, and engineering development sectors. Don’t forget that positions in such sectors will be available not only in IT organizations but even in corporations in other industries. Keep in thoughts that practically each and every company relies on computers and digital engineering. So, it is fairly impossible for an organization to simply close its IT department just to save on income. Therefore, networking engineers, IT administrators, Computer help technicians, technical assistance specialists and pc programmers may not worry about their jobs for now.

Many believe that the demand for World wide web professionals will be growing exponentially as more and more companies will rely on the Planet Wide Net for cost-efficient approaches to marketplace and sell their services and items. Net developers, designers, animators, embedded systems, semiconductor, messaging specialists, and JAVA developers are just some of the positions that may be offered subsequent year.

Immigrants looking for job openings in these fields may pay a visit to technology job boards like Tech Career Direct.

New immigrant opportunities in Canada due to retiring boomers

Canada, 16th June: Canada is welcoming an increased number of immigrants in recent years thanks to growing number of retiring boomers.

According to official figures by Immigration Canada, around 40,000 immigrants are coming to Canada from India.

In addition, immigrants having roots in India are immigrating to Canada from other nations. This is especially due to higher number of baby boomers reaching retirement age in recent years, official Statistics Canada figures reveal.

One-third Canadians are baby boomers--Baby boomers include those nearing 65 years in Canada. Official data shows baby boomers in Canada account for around one-third of the total population of the nation. Moreover, around 50 percent of working population of Canada includes baby boomers.

So, this increasing percentage of baby boomers is creating higher immigration opportunities in Canada.

Nearly 750,000 Canadians running businesses in Canada will reach retirement age by the year 2020 and around 500,000 Canadians running small businesses will retire in the coming five years. This means higher Canada immigration opportunities for immigrants especially from India to come and run businesses here.

Higher number of immigrant investors from India—According to latest data, a large number of immigrants coming to Canada from India immigrate with the aim of setting up businesses in Canada. This is especially noticeable considering the fact that a large number of Indians having huge savings are ready to invest in Canada.

Meanwhile, around almost a decade back, a common trend among Indians coming to Canada was to work as engineers or other related jobs here.

And the scenario witnessed around three decades ago was to work as taxi drivers in Canada.

Majority of immigrants possess higher education levels--This changing concept among Indians immigrating to Canada is due to higher education levels. Majority of immigrants from India coming to Canada are immigrating under the points-based Canada immigration program.

A higher percentage of immigrants coming to Canada hold post-graduate degrees in fields like engineering, medicine, law, or other such highly-specialized sectors.

Apart from higher education levels among immigrants moving to Canada in the recent years, another significant difference is having proficiency in linguistic skills along with several years of experience in running businesses in India.

Good knowledge of systems and workings of operating MNCs (multinational companies) is another advantage found in recent Canadian immigrants with Indian origin.

Tories reintroduce anti-human smuggling legislation

Canada, 17th June: A bill that had invited severe controversies has been introduced once again by the feds.

The new bill to be introduced by Tories is aimed to control human smuggling in Canada.

In addition, the bill also seeks to make Canadians convinced that the nation’s borders are safe and secure.

Bill to allow detention of irregular arrivals in Canada--New anti-human smuggling bill introduced by the Conservative government will curb undocumented immigrants crossing coasts of Canada through ships.

The act will give authority to Canada immigration minister, Jason Kenney, to title asylum seeking migrants arriving through ships as ‘irregular arrivals’. And it will also make way for detention of such migrants for a maximum period of one year while processing of their claims is underway along with verification of their identity.

Bill aims to make Canada less vulnerable to human smuggling—Hence, the anti-human smuggling bill wants to dissuade human smugglers to sneak people into Canada. Often, it is seen that human-smugglers charge a hefty amount from migrants wanting to move to Canada even though by foul means including vessels.

As per an estimate, as many as 500 migrants had crossed Canada’s borders in the last two years including 492 Tamils arriving aboard Sun Sea and 76 asylum claimants arriving aboard Ocean Lady.

Anti-human smuggling bill will strengthen Canada immigration and refugee system—Speaking about the bill, Jason Kenney stated that it will strengthen the integrity of Canadian immigration system as well as Canada refugee system.

No doubt, it will improve confidence levels of Canada’s neighbors, especially the US, with regard to the security of the nation’s borders, asserted Kenney.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister Vic Toews stated that the bill is a clear warning to all anti-social elements that human smuggling is a serious crime and anyone found to be guilty of doing so will be dealt with severe punishment.

Meanwhile, he said that Canada is a welcoming nation to all those immigrants wanting to come to Canada through legal means including legitimate refugees. All undocumented migrants will not be allowed to get Canada permanent residency or bring their families to Canada for a period of five years.

Immigrating Through Human Smuggling May Not be Worth The Price Now

In the light of the of the arrest of the Ocean Lady this week, the currently ruling Conservative government aims to bring back the Bill C-49 against human smuggling to discourage people from immigrating to Canada. Jason Kenney, the immigration minister wants it back roughly unchanged.

NEED
As stated by Kenney in an interview, the bill is needed because it to avoid immigration in the country. The need becomes all the more necessary to avoid stalling of any negotiations with the United States concerning their new economic as well as security agreements. Moreover, it is a giant step against the human smugglers who are paid heavily in return to getting people to Canada on a regular basis.

CRITICISM According to government’s critics, the Bill is targeted towards the wrong people. It is already known that anyone who is involved in the illegal immigration of a person into Canada can be sent behind the bars for life or is subjected to a fine worth $1 million. Plus, the critics say that the bill breaches the commitments of the country under the UN Convention on Refugees and also the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

PITFALLS OF THE PREVIOUS BILL Don Davies, NDP MP admitted that the previous bill was quite complex to understand. It is misunderstood with jagged movement of refugees. He further went to say that the previous bill couldn’t make any distinction between illegal migrants and the genuine ones who could escape the persecution. According to him, his party wants to discourage human trafficking in which people come to Canada for illegal activities.

CONTENTS OF THE NEW BILL C-49 would make it obligatory for those who found guilty to be nabbed for a year or wait for the decision of the Immigration and Refugee Board. IT aims to block all kind of efforts of the people to permanent settle down in the country and bring their family members as well.
MEASURES ADOPTED – The Canadian government is likely to adopt the following ways under the bill:

• The operators and the owners of the ship will be held liable.
• Cancelling the refugee position of a person who doesn’t need the country’s shelter
• Confirming that benefits received by an illegal migrant are less generous than those available to a regular Canadian citizen
.

FURTHER EFFORTS Jason Kenney also stated in an interview that they are attempting to raise the cost of taking the voyage (the earlier price point is $45,000) so that people are unable to afford the hugely expensive immigration to Canada. Hence, it becomes difficult for people to quickly sponsor their family members as Canada’s family reunification will get harder than earlier.

New Immigrants to Canada may choose Alberta as destination- Jobs Ahoy!

With every passing year the situation in Canada’s western province of Alberta has an ever present danger looming over it, that of dwindling human resources. The situation is very grim and the ‘happy hours’ of this state with a population of 3.7 million seems to be over.

At a recent business conference, one of the top executives of a leading construction firm jokingly advised the attendees to go home soon and start producing babies. The situation is not so comic for employers and business houses. They are faced with the prospects of ever rising inflation. The reason being the ever present shortage of the working class.

Additional burden With the baby boomers aging and not much addition to the population, this state of affairs nay continue yet for some time to come. The reason for this observation being that this year another chunk of retirees are going to be added to the already fragile balance of economics in the province with the baby boomers starting to hit 65 years of age, the official age of retirement in Canada.

Mike Corbett, senior vice-president of David Aplin Recruiting argues “The underlying factors never went away even when the economy tanked in 2008-09.” He further stated that they may not have access to the human capital that they had in thepast.

Shortage of strong hands In fact, Corbett had warned of a labour shortage as early as the start of the year 2010. "Although the unemployment rate is up, we haven't done anything to solve the labour-shortage problem that we experienced back in '07." He had said.

The same sentiments are echoed by the Alberta Employment and Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk when he says “We are walking into a perfect storm.” It seems that Canadians are having less number of children on an average. The average stands at a mere1.6 today as compared to 2.3 in the baby boomer era.

To make matters worse, a new law states that On top of that, a new federal policy is in place that forces people, who immigrate here under Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program, to depart from the country after the term that is granted, and wait for four years more before they can reapply. Also, people from other provinces like the Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Atlantic region are staying back in their respective provinces since they have ample opportunity to find work and settle there.

Greener pastures beyond the horizon Adding insult to injury, the workers in this province are themselves taking up offers from employers in other states who offer them the lure of a better pay than what is offered back home. Major companies have also recruited Canadians at BHP Billiton, Caltex Australia, Origin Energy, Sinclair Knight Merz, Rio Tinto and Barmico when they held recruitment expos in Calgary and Edmonton in May.

Go South An only possible solution in sight for the employers of this once thriving province in Canada seem to look at other countries as possible sources of labour. They, it seems have adopted a new policy of ‘Look South’ to counter this problem before it cascades into an avalanche.

British Columbia PNP creates jobs, brings investments

Canada, 21st June: Fast tracking immigrants into Canada through British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program helps in creating new jobs as well as brings in foreign investment.

The BC Provincial Nominee Program(British Columbia PNP) allows fast-track immigration of aspiring immigrants into this Canadian province.

BC PNP- a great success-The program BC PNP launched way back in the year 2001 has helped a large number of immigrants come and settle here. It allows fast-track Canada permanent residency to applicants wanting to move to BC provided the skills possessed by them are in accordance with the requirements of BC employment market and needs of BC economy.

The BC PNP offers a fast-track immigration to applicants as compared to other Canada immigration programs.

Provincial Nominee program brings in investments, new jobs in BC—Among various benefits of the BC PNP include increased foreign investments from immigrant or business entrepreneurs coming to British Columbia. This has helped a large number of families living in BC, reveals a latest report by a renowned accounting and business advisory company in Canada, Grant Thornton LLP.

As per the report, foreign investments to the tune of $423 million have been poured in by 203 immigrant entrepreneurs getting Canada Permanent Residency between the year 2005 and 2010.

And the program also helped in generation of around 1,100 new jobs in British Columbia, the reports adds.

Nearly 93 percent of immigrant entrepreneurs surveyed for the report and coming to British Columbia through BC PNP had invested around $498,000 in their businesses in this Canadian province on an average within a year of their arrival here.

BC immigrant program fulfils demand for skilled people—Another wonderful benefit of the BC PNP is that it adequately caters to the growing need of required skilled workforce in the province by allowing immigrants including health professionals, foreign graduates as well as post graduates wanting to move and live in British Columbia.

Out of the total skilled immigrants coming to BC under BC PNP, around 94 percent stay in BC. It may be mentioned that there is a huge shortage of skilled workforce in BC and the number of jobs going to become available in the next ten years is estimated to be around one million.

This week, Statistics Canada (StatsCan) reported that the Canadian economy added more than five times the expected number of jobs in November, a sign that the country's economic recovery is well underway.
"It was across many sectors, many full-time jobs, which are regarded as good-quality jobs because it means steady income and a steady flow of money back into the economy,".

The national unemployment rate dropped 0.1 per cent in December as a result of the 79,000 new jobs. The most populated provinces of Ontario and Quebec, in particular, saw a substantial increase in the number of jobs created. Those two provinces are common destinations for immigrants to Canada.

"Canada's post-recession economy demands a high level of legal immigration to keep our work force strong," said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) estimates that they will welcome between 240,000 and 265,000 new permanent residents in 2011. 60 percent of these are expected to be immigrants who arrive in Canada on skilled immigration visas..little less than year 2010.

While a greater portion of immigration into Canada is expected to be via economic immigration streams, Kenney noted that other immigration routes are important for Canada as well
