What should we do - extend visa or go for PR? Please help.

Hello, I would like to ask you , if it is possible for us (me and my wife) to get PR. We came to Canada August 2009 - me as a Skilled worker temporary visa holder and my wife as a full time student with temporary study permit and temporary work visa.
Our situation - I finished Telecommunication school in Czech republic in 1992 and have 16year experience as a telecommunication technician in Czech republic and since October 2009 working in Canada as field technician-contractor for Telus.
My wife has high school and diploma from Czech republic and will finish in June private school and will have diploma in travel and turism and working part-time now.
Our temporary papers will expire end of June 2010 so it is about time to think about what to do next. We would like to stay. Should we try to extend our visa or try to go straight for PR? I am not sure if we can go for PR in our situation. Thank you very much for any help. Robert

You can apply for permanent resident status as a skilled worker, but it will take much longer than a few months. If you want to remain in Canada in the mean time you will need to extend your temporary worker status.

Thanks matthewc , this may be dumb question but do you think that I need a lawyer in order to extend my workpermit? Thanks Rob
