Uh...it means that CIC has made a decision on the PR application. ;)

Unless the applicant has been called for an interview (or has medical or criminality issues), the decision is usually positive.

if he is visa exempt, then his COPR will be mailed to him at whatever address he put in the application as his mailing address.

if he requires a visa, then he will either receive a mailed letter or an email about how to send his passport to the visa office.

I suspect that he will soon receive an email letting him know what their decision is...and if it IS positive, his CoPR will be mailed to the address that they have for him. If he's now in Canada, they may mail the CoPR to his address in Ireland (if that's what he used in his application), but he can simply have someone [there] forward it to him in Canada. He would then either drive to the nearest land border to `flagpole', or schedule a landing appointment at your local CIC office.

no, actually no email is sent to confirm the decision. either they receive the COPR or instructions about how to send the passport for processing.

is he visa exempt? if he's visa exempt, then he doesn't have to send his physical passport anywhere. a lot of visa exempt applicants are waived ppr and just receive their approval paper. it takes as long as it takes for the letter to arrive from the visa office in regular mail. no one can tell you how long it will take.

if he requires a visa, then you will want to ask in the london thread about whether he will receive an email or a mailed letter with instructions about how to send his passport to the visa office for processing. again, no one can really tell you how long it will take to receive this letter. the london thread has very good statistics for how long it generally takes and what to expect, so it's worth taking a look at the spreadsheet to figure out what happens next.

i do not know if irish applicants are visa exempt or not. i would assume you and your husband would know this information.

Hope it is good news... I don't know if him being irish makes him visa exempt. he applied for a visitor visa recently for 3 months and they gave him a year.

if he needs to apply for a visa to visit canada, that means he is NOT visa exempt, which means he will be receiving instructions about how to send his physical passport for processing.

if the applicant did not receive additional form/information requests and did not have an interview, DM is generally an approval.

Sorry for the question. Does CoPR stands for Confirmation of permanent residency? Thanks!
