Visiting Home Country

Dear all,

I am currently living in Canada. I got my PR in May 2009. I had two trips to US since then. I stayed in US for a total of 8 days.

I heard from my aunt that I cannot go to my home country (HONG KONG) during the first two years of landing. US is the only exception. She said my uncle has to go to US and take a transfer flight to Hong Kong. I wonder if it's true.

I plan to go to Hong Kong for 1 month to visit. Does anyone know if there's any issues? My PR card is expiring in 2014.

Thanks
Dave

You can go to any country you want at any time you want as long as you have a visa to go there. The only thing you have to watch with your PR is that you are not outside Canada for more than 1095 days (3 years) in your first 5 years as a PR or in any 5 year period after that.

your aunt gave you totally incorrect information. those rules apply to one entry visitor's visa to Canada.
