Hello, everybody.

I have a specific questions and hope that somebody can give me some advice.

1.Is there a way to get a visa if i need to stay more than 6 months in Canada as a visitor (My husband got a contract in Canada and I want to stay with him)

2. Is it possible to extend the stay from inside Canada (if i have a multi visa) and for which period?

3. I have read about Visitor record. Is it only for visa-exempt countries? Or my husband can ask it for me too on the border (with my TRV)?

Appreciate the answers.

1. Ask for the length of time you wish to stay when you enter. Note that if you are from a country that requires a medical for more than a 6 months stay in Canada, it will only be issued for 6 months.
2. If you only get 6 months, you can apply to Vegreville for an extension as a visitor. Note, if you need the medical, you should have it "up front" before you apply for the extension. You should have a copy of your spouses work permit to show the length of his stay in Canada.
3. If on entry your stay is granted for more than 6 months, a visitor permit will be issued.

Hi, what are the chances of getting such an extension? What kind of reason/explanation can you supply them such that they will give another 6 months?

Thanks.

Hi, thank you very much for you answer!

Yes, we need medical for more than 6 months. Do you think it is better to undergo exam or to apply for visa online and wait if the will ask for it proceeding my application?
I mean there are chances that they will reject my application right after they receive it (without asking for med), but at least in that case i will lose $150 instead of $150+med fees.

Got the answer for last question from the immigration specialist of my husband's company.
Maybe will be useful for someone.

Yes, I can apply for a visitor visa and indicate that I want to stay for more than 6 months (for the period of my husband contract). Since I need a medical exam for staying in Canada for more than 6 months, it is better to do it upfront - because it will took less waiting time, than if to do it after applying.
