Hi,

I applied for Student visa for Sept 2012 intake but got refused saying that my loan amount is less than 80% of tuition fees + living expense in canada. I have already paid first year fees to college (since i paid it seperately, i have different receipts for each semester, which i submitted for visa) and showed education loan of 5.5lakhs. Can anyone please tell me why it got rejected?

Ielts 7.5 (L-9, R-7.5, W-6.5, S-6.5)

Is it a mistake of Visa Officer?

Thanks,
David

paying 1 year tuition fee is just small parts of being financially strong, the VO is particularly interested on how you got the money and subsequent payments, that's when the source of your income plays the major role. someone who is going for a course rather than Masters or Phd should make their parents as a sponsors or close relatives who is gainfully employed.

@ sikhsingh : how can u say that.?? I know ppl who got student visa, after paying first year fees directly to college and showing loan of just 5.4 lakhs!! Infact both of our application went on the same day! Per my knowledge, VO just need to see an education loan of $8,000 (which is equal to 4.5 lakhs INR approx.), if we pay the tuition fees directly to college.

Hi

Copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to at least 80% of tuition +living + travel expenses for one academic year (normally, first year’s tuition, unless already paid, plus $8000). Is a must

Let me explain
If your tuition fees is 12000 for one year you must show a loan of at least 80% of

12000+ 10000+ 2000= 24000 80% of 24000 is 19200CADX 53Rs= 10,17600 INR It cannot be less than this amount even if you have paid the first term fees

any one can get a loan of 4.5 lakhs without collateral securities or guarantees, by getting a loan higher than 10 lakhs for which you require collaterals , you can establish that you are financially stable in your country.

(normally, first year’s tuition, unless already paid, plus $8000
let me make sense of this

after you have taken a loan of 80% and paid the first year tuition from the loan then you need to show only 8000 CAD from what ever is left over from your loan amount.

Now 80% of the loan is a must but that's not the only determining factor is getting a Visa, your overall profile also must be good.

If you do not have a loan of 80% they still process the application but it is processed under as a general applicants profile.

In your case your friends profile may have been presumably a notch upper than yours

Its clearly mention in the checklist that Copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to at least 80% of tuition +living + travel expenses for one academic year (normally, first year's tuition, unless already paid, plus $8000)

This means, whatever fees (first semester, or first year fees), you pay to college, you can deduct it from the loan amount. My experience is a clear example.

You know what, I got my Visa yesterday. Loan amount 5.5 lakhs. ;)

Once again you got your visa under GENERAL with 5.5 lakhs and not under SPP, in fact you were rejected under SPP for not having 80% loan.
Don't confuse the forum
and in general a loan is not a must but highly recommended

I got under general, but my friend got visa for 5.5 lakhs loan under SPP, by paying first year fees to college. :) If your point is valid, how does that happen? In both SPP and General checklist, the 'proof of funds' criteria is the same.
