Visa expiry date. What should I expect?

Hello, any day now my hubby will be receiving his passport with visa in it. Our case has been straight forward/routine with no interviews or additional doc requests. I am more anxious about the expiry date on it & I have a question... Would they use our old medicals that expire at beginning of April or the news ones my hubby sent in volunterarily in case they weren't done processing our case by april. We didnt want delay and we thought we may have one by them asking us to redo medicals. We were also worried then too of getting less time to land. We know by fact the embassy received my hubby's 2nd/new medical reports in mid-February. My hubby needs time to land because of his job here, our pets here, and our house here. Hopefully, we will have more than 2 wks to land when we receive the visa. How common is it for them to give someone just 2 wks to land? And is it common for them to go with the new medicals & disregard the old for visa validity? Is it common for them to extend validity?

No way to know for sure. It's not rare to be given very little time to land. It'll depend on the individual... Just have to wait and see.

I just rec'd word that our passport was mailed to our old address yesterday despite the fact we updated our new address with embassy 4 times and they did receive our request they confirmed it. So we may have even less time to land now when we finally receive it..if it doesnt get lost. The security guard of our old gated community wanted to sign for it but the post man said no and said he has to take it back to the post office. But when my hubby talkd to the post man yesterday and today he couldnt remember and said he doesnt see it. We have to sort it out with the post office tomorrow. They dont seem to be taking it seriously. We are so afraid it'll be sent back and delay it more for us or worse gets lost.

Just document everything. It sounds like immigration can be quite reasonable about these things. If it's an issue contact immigration with proof that you only had x number of days from when you received it and see what can be done.

On the other hand, I would be prepared to make a plan for a quick trip out to land. Your husband can land and then fly back to finish up everything. I know it's an expense but better than losing your visa and starting over.

Update: We found out today that post office sent back the pp to the embassy because the embassy mailed it to our old mailing address. Makes me upset since we made repeated requests to update our address. They did update it i saw it once but at the end of the process they mailed it to the old address. I dont get it.

We contacted the embassy about it today that it has been sent back and once again gave them our new address and asked they resend it back asap. We told them we were worried about the expiry date. Im hoping they use the new medicals for the expiry date so we can make the trip altogether back to canada this summer. There wont be no rush then. I just hope we get it back soon..this waiting game is harder than when it was in process. We are so worried!!!!

The expiry date is always same as the expiry date of your medical. So if you appeared for your medicals on feb 1, 2011 then your visa expiry date would be feb 1, 2012.

We submitted medicals twice (once voluntarily) as we got our first medicals done too early and we were worried we wouldnt be given a good amount of time to land. Problem is we didnt know which medicals they would use if they processed our case fast.

Well, I finally have the visa. Well, my husbands family does and will be getting it soon...they were able to pick it up at the post office with a letter of authorization from my husband and lots of begging before it was returned. Also, I found out today that they used our recent medicals for expiry so we have til Jan 28 2012 to land. Not April 3 2011..thankfully!!!
