What does filing as outland applicant for spouse mean? If we do court marriage in USA , my spouse who is canadian citizen can file application and submit to India visa office? As I see processing time is shorter for India compared to USA or Canada? Does country of court marriage matter in the application process?

Hi, I sent my application on January 17th 2014
They received it on Jan 22nd 2014
I got the first approval on Feb 27th 2014
Then my final letter from CIC saying on March 3rd 2014 said I qualified to sponsor my husband and that they sent my application to CPP Ottawa

My husband is a US citizen, I'm a Canadian Citizen. Since we will be living in Quebec, we also got the QSC 2 weeks ago, everything was approved. How long am I looking to wait. We sent everything upfront in the application, medicals, FBI. I'm so tired of this distance. Travelling to Maryland is 10 hours!!! with a Santa Fe 2013. I'm telling you gas ain't cheap!!!!

I'm happy that many are also in my situation waiting...

there are 2 types of sponsorship applications. inland and outland. outland is usually faster for most visa offices. Where the marriage ceremony takes place has no bearing on the application.

as for which visa office your application will go to, it's hard to say. Even if you chose one over the other (Ottawa or New Dehli) on your application, CIC has the final say and they will send it to where they see fit, so really you won't know for sure until they tell you in your sponsorship approval letter. All US applications go to Ottawa, unless there seem to be red flags in the application, then it will be sent back to the US, whose processing time is very long comparatively. I am not sure what happens with applications for people in the US on work visas. It's suggested to search these threads for those in the same situation as yourself, as well as the New Dehli thread. There may be some people in the same position who can tell you the best way to pursue.

Hello! I'm joining this thread as I'm sponsoring my American common-law partner! We just sent the application in this week so I'm hoping for AOR sometime in the next month and a half (fingers crossed!). I am so appreciative of this forum and threads like this one where people have the opportunity to get great feedback and ideas of the timelines.

Actually, it was rcohen2014 who advised us to apply outland instead of inland in order to shorten the timeline. My partner lives in Vancouver with me and is here on a NAFTA work permit.

Hello! And good luck, everyone!

good luck! glad to see you are applying outland. from what i've read, it's the best route for us citizens, so i wish you a lot of luck. the wait time for sponsorship approval is the most nerve racking, since you know it's a "short" wait. after SA, it's "easier" to remain calm and not stress out all the time because you know it's going to be quite some time before you hear anything! (at least that's my experience!)

Welcome beebrown! I added you to the spreadsheet, which is in my signature :) It'll help estimate the time you might have to wait before getting your visa.

I'm an American sponsored by my Canadian husband. If you look at the Ottawa spreadsheet, I'm on line 58 (I think). It was about 5 1/2 months from Sponsorship Approval to the request for my passport, and another 2 weeks (roughly) to get the COPR. During this whole time my status on eCAS was "Application Received."

Good advice. We went Outland (I was the one on the NAFTA work permit) and it was 7 months from initial application to landing, which was remarkable given that they closed Buffalo and moved it's processing to Ottawa.

Enjoy the rain! Tough to complain after a week of nice summer weather.

Ok, here's a question for you folks. My husband just called the Call center. We had resubmitted my missing/incorrect documents in March and hadn't heard anything since. My sponsored husband called them and all they could find and/ or tell him that I was in his (the agent was male) system and he found my full name and birthday (as an addendum I was the one that paid the fees using my personal account). Is that a promising thing? It's been over a month and I'd really like to know where I stand. He said people often have trouble locating their files within the system but I'd really like to move on with the rest of my life at one point in the future.

yes, this is a good thing. again, what was the number of days they gave you to return the missing document? the file may not be updated until that day has passed. my husband called twice. the first time, same thing, all they could tell them is that i was in the system, and they couldn't say for sure if the document was added to the file. the second time, same thing - though that time, they were able to give him a UCI number.

planning for 11-06-2014!!!
COPR reissued in my married name!!! It came today! For some reason, they sent it to our new address (as of June 1) but kept my husband's address on the COPR as the old one. I really hope that isn't a problem because I can't handle sending it back AGAIN and wait for it AGAIN!!!!

We are planning a trip home to NY in 2 weeks so I will land then so that I can fill out the B4/B4A looking at my things...I want to just do it today though!!! SOOOO CLOSE!!!!

Thank you so much for adding me to the spreadsheet. Did you also applied to live in Quebec? Just wanted to know it says interview waived on the Certificate of selection. Does that mean that my husband won't need an interview?

Sorry, I'm not applying to live in Quebec, I'm from Ontario! I'm sure someone else will know about that though :) Typically interviews are not required for Americans though. Only in rare cases will they ask for one.

Hello beebrown. I am a quebec applicant. Interview waived on the csq means no interview was required to get your husband approved for the CSQ. Permanent residency application is processed in ottawa and they'll decide if an interview is needed (usually waived). Make sure you keep the copy of the csq that mentions "IMMIGRATION" at the bottom (page 3). Ottawa requested a copy from me, and I spent a couple of days looking for it. Timeline are 6-8 months on average for US citizens. Good Luck! ;)

Just to share an update and please share any comments you may have on the latest step in my progress to sponsoring my spouse!

Received an email regarding our case status. Our file has been transferred to CPC-Ottawa. They require supporting documents regarding proof of our relationship. Today I spent the day scanning snail mail letters that we sent over the y ears of our time apart (we loved this as it was a more personal touch than emails). I also scanned flight itineraries including passes. We also included cards congratulating us on our engagement/marriage from family.

We had already provided with the original package my life insurance copies which include my wife as my beneficiary and many pictures from our wedding and engagement. We spent a lot of our relationship apart due to financial reasons as well as the obvious (distance) so we do not have a lot of together photographs (we are both not very photogenic) Looking back now I wish we had taken more photographs of our trips and outings.

I would just like to know from anyone else's experience where we may be in the application process?? From what I understand this is the most difficult part of the process. A lot of very personal and intimate letters were shared and are now at the disposal of an agent so I hope that will be enough. I also wanted to know if providing too many scanned letters or photos can work against us as well.

Thanks to all who spent the time reading this. Good luck to you all
