Hi all,

I arrived in May 2013 with a temporary work permit. I was given a temporary SIN card.

I applied a unsecured credit card with Scotiabank and they gave me an initial $500 credit limit.

I have been using and paying my credit card bills on time
After six months I asked for a credit limit increase, they say it is not possible to give > $500 since I am having temporary SIN card.

Is this true for other banks as well? Any advice?

Nope. Probably depends upon the bank. I know somebody was given CAD$4500 at initial app then given almost double the limit after a year. Wait a litlle though. You've been here less than a year.

It is not true.... once you have it for 1 year, you can easily get credit cards from Walmart, Superstore, etc.

Try RBC...

Good luck...

Not true. I have a card with TD Canada Trust and I got an initial limit of $1000 and after 8 months I got an increase. I am now enjoying a credit limit of $3000 - which is just what I needed.
