I've a question for the senior members:

Is it possible to travel abroad for few days after the landing, but before having received the PR card?

Someone told me that after landing and before receive the PR card you cannot leave Canada.

Please advice.

You cannot travel by air unless you have PR card. You can travel by Car to US.
If you want to travel to any other country, then you need to apply for travel document in that country. airline won't allow you to board as you don't have a Visa

I'm currently in Canada.

If after landing (without the PR card yet) I have to go to Europe to attend a trade show, which airline may prevent me to get on board? The one that I would use to leave Canada or the one that I would use to fly back to Canada?

when you are going , you will be checked for visa of that european country you are visiting.
when coming back you need a canadian visa/ PR card.

Being a citizen from a visa exempt country (Italy), every time I've flown to Canada I have never been questioned by the airlines and I only filled my immigration form once arrived at the Canadian airport. Why now should be different?

If you are from visa exempt country. This doesn't apply to you.
You just need to carry your COPR.

In order to fly to Canada as a visa exempt country citizen, you need to apply for an eTa. You cannot apply for an eTa since you are a permanent resident of canada, therefore, yes it is different than before you became a permanent resident.

You can still travel by car (as you only need the eTa to travel by air). You can also apply for a travel document if you stay long enough in whichever foreign country you plan to visit.

Actually eTa is not mandatory until September 29th, 2016.

Hi,

I asked the CIC officer the same questions when I landed and she told me that leaving the country is not a problem, but that I would need to verify that I am a PR when re-entering Canada. In order to do that, you need to contact the Canadian Embassy of the country you are visiting and request a confirmation of status in Canada and get it before you head back. The process takes 3 weeks. So unless it is urgent, I would not travel. It seems more of a pain that it is worth.
