Tips for a successful BOWP application

Hi Seniors,

I am filling out a paper application for BOWP as my post grad. work permit is expiring next month.
I do not see a requirement for PHOTOS in the 5553 Instruction Guide. Please advise if I am required to submit any pictures. If yes, how many? (it is not on the doc. checklist either).

Please advise asap.. your help will be much appreciated.

At least, you need to upload a picture with your online application, even though it will not appear on your permit.

my work permit will expire on feb 9 2016, but i'm still waiting for my aor until now. can i submit a bowp application even though i have no Aor yet? im pretty sure that i will received it on 1st or 2nd week of feb. can somebody post some sample of explanation letter here. thanks

You can submit your application before you get AOR, but if it's processed before AOR is sent it will be denied.

I did my upfront medical in Aug 2015 (without the medical request from cic), and my post graduate work permit will expire in April 2016. I would like to apply for extension of my BOWP now, what documents do I need to provide in terms of applying for bridge open work permit (under the status of waiting for PR)?

Can i apply BOWP in mid of march,2016 ?

is it better to apply online application ?

Bowp can be applied only within 4 months of your current wp expiry. You can apply after 1st May.
Online application is convenient as you can get an ack email immediately and get any communication from cic immediately. Though paper appln processing time is less currently i guess you should add the mailing time and mail communication delay to calculate the actual processing time.
I myself applied online as in either case the wp is going to arrive after current wp expiry with the current processing times due to the 4 month rule.

You can continue working with same employer under implied status if you have applied for wp and decision hasnt been made. However new employer will ask for a valid wp i guess.

I recently applied for a BOWP and I did indicate my current employer and I put my job offer letter... I did not attach my AOR though, is this really bad?
I don't think there's a way for me to include the AOR at this stage anymore or the letter of explanation, I am freaking out!!! Please help!!

When they start processing your appln they will contact you and ask for aor or any other doc reqd. Also you should leave employer details blank or write 'not applicable as bowp' in the employer section.

Hi,
If I were you I would apply early. You don't have to apply within 4 month. I applied for mine last year, right the day before my visa expired and I was under implied status during 3 months. My employer asked for the new permit and i had to explain my situation. They were okay with it, but it's better to have all your paperwork in place before employer asks.

I have posted this question on a separate thread, but maybe you guys know this. How much do you pay for a BOWP? I paid 155 dollars for mine last year, but I have seen this year that there is a 100 dollars fee for open work permit holder fee. I have to apply for an extension and am a bit confused. Is it 255 bucks or 155? A member of this forum said it is 255 bucks, but wanted to double check.

I guess it will be rejected. But note that it could get rejected after your current wp expires as there is no guarantee of the wp processing time right now. in such a situation you could be fired from your current job i guess.

So better you apply within 4 months. Atleast you know you will definitely get a wp at some point during your implied status.
