Hello,

I have a question about the COPR. Can my spouse land in Canada, get his permanent residence card, and then fly back to his home country to work for a few months while trying to find a job here? I'm just unsure if he needs to move everything here immediately.

It is okay. Theoretically speaking, one can come out by the next flight back.

Does he have Condition 51 (conditional PR) on his COPR? If so, this requires him to cohabit with you (sponsor) for 2 years immediately after landing. If he returns to his home country while you stay in Canada, the longer you are apart the more chance there is you could have trouble with Condition 51.

Also keep in mind the travel rule differences for visa-required vs visa-exempt passport holders. If your spouse is not visa-exempt, he will need his physical PR card or a PR travel document to board an airplane back to Canada. If the PR card goes to a Canadian address (after 1-2 months from landing date), whoever receives it can courier it to him in home country.

We haven't received our COPR yet, we're still at the "Final" stage of approval. We had lived together for 2 years 10 months previously.

When do you find out if you have a condition 51? Is it when you land? Or when they issue your visa?
If you have Condition 51, it will be stated on the COPR so you will know before you land.
