Hi all,

I am planning to land in canada via niagra falls border as soon as I receive my Passport. I have some questions regarding that.

1. Does anyone know when is the fire works for independance day taking place? Will I be able to cross border (Land) during that time?Is it possible that the import and export will take place during national holiday? I am asking this because we are planning to land by the end of June or July first week.

2. I have some gold to declare. How can I declare that? I don't know the exact value and I have some gold here in USA and some in my home country India. I do have picture of all the gold I have in both USA and India. Do I have to categorize each gold item or give the total approximate value of all the gold?

3. What is the procedure to declare my personal stuff such as clothes and gold? Should the clothes be divided into categories such as tops, jeans etc. or only it should be mentioned as clothes and the corresponding value? Is the value of 10,000 dollars for each item or for total all items?

Please advise

1. Call the Rainbow Bridge @ +1 (905) 354-4843 and confirm about landing. You mention export/import. If that's a car, note that you can only do it as Queenston/Lewiston crossing since you can only export your car on the US side at Lewiston, NY. The vehicle export office has limited working hours (8-4, M-F, closed US Federal holidays)

2. Include the gold on your B4. Since it sounds like you aren't importing it all simultaneously (since some is in India). Photos are important - make sure you include them and that the photos are stamped at the border (they usually do this automatically, but just make sure that the officer isn't distracted halfway though or something).

3. Depends on the value. If you don't have much clothing, group it together. If it's more, split it up. Also, split up goods you are importing when you land vs. goods to follow. The 10,000 limit is only for returning Canadians (and it's per item) so it doesn't affect you anyway :)

There's additional details on the B4 in the FAQs of the new thread (incl. info on car importing if it helps)

Why is it whenever I hear someone mention "The Rainbow Bridge" on here, I have visions of pets awaiting their owners ;)

(If you have no idea what i'm talking about it's a very sad poem about pets that have passed away - look it up its beautiful!)

this may be a silly question but does anyone know if Buffalo observes Canadian holidays or US ones? As in will it be open today (memorial day long weekend in the states).

Consulates usually observe both the host country and the representing country's holidays.

ETA - Buffalo VO's holidays

Husband landing date is June 13,2012.....still waiting for his PP to be returned stamped with all info.. He expressed post over nite to them on May 22/12.. they signed for it. overnite express post return for them to get it back to him.. wow they dont give a person much time. I actually have my MP looking into it, making sure it will be sent out soon so he can land. very stressful... Also was a bit over whelmed with all the import/export things needed before he can bring his vehicles into canada. Sighs hoping for a smooth Landing.
