Tax Residents in Canada and Abroad

I am PR who moved to Canada last year to comply with RO. I am still considered a tax resident in my home Country in the EU though I have not been there and do not plan to live there at least for the next 3 years. I am still required to file a tax retun on my home country due to existing ties.

Are there questions and/or requirements in the PR card renewal application and citizenship application to declare having filed tax return overseas?

Answer: Quick answer is yes! Normally you will have to file tax in every country where you have ties

Question 2) Are there questions and/or requirements in the PR card renewal application and citizenship application to declare having filed tax return overseas?
Answer: No tax related questions in PR card renewal! There are tax questions in citizenship application, but they ask only tax returns of Canada.
However, if either of your applications becomes non-routine, you might have to declare your tax ties with countries other than Canada

1. Related to tax and citizenship application...I am going to apply by July5 and want some help with tax question
I landed in June 2011 and stayed for 33 days in 2011 and then came back in June 2012 and stayed for 35 days. I settled in August 2013 and since then I did not go anywhere outside Canada. I filed tax for 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 and I guess I don't have problem with filing tax for 4 years out of 6. My question:
How I am going to answer the question of ( required to file ) and (tax filed ) for 2011 and 2012???
my answer looks like this:
2016 -----yes ........yes
2015------yes.........yes
2014......yes.........yes
2013......yes.........yes
2012......??........??
2011.....??..........??

2. physical presence Calculator:
I landed in 27 June 2011. In 02 - 08- 2011 to 13 -06-2012 I was in Saudi Arabia during this 10 months I travelled to US, Singapore, Bahrain and UAE for work and get back to Saudi Arabia. The question: How I am going to report this trip in physical presence calculator given that Canada is not involved in all these trips. I left Saudi Arabia and get back to Saudi Arabia? I left Canada on 02/08/2011 and get back to Canada on 13/06/2012...

Hi Ameer,

You have a very similar timeline as mine.

1- For question 1, year 2011 and 2012 , NO (required to file), NO (tax filed)
2- For question 2, only from Canada to Canada. Any country while you are outside Canada is not important, except Saudi Arabia. Only include Saudi Arabia. Canada - Saudi Arabia then Saudi Arabia- Canada is the only important.
