surname problem. urgent help

i need urgent help regarding surname.
as my name is xxxx singh in all documents and Singh does not come under surname. so my passport will not have any surname. and i heard name without surname will create problems in future in Canada.

I can officially change my name and add surname to it by effidavit and adv. in two newspapers. and then apply for passport with surname. will doing so can create problem in getting admission in Canada and also in visa as my all documents has no surname?
please clear my doubt as my time is getting wasted in this.

No it not matter of worrying, but you should send newspapers photocopies to embassy with profile or you can send affidavit

so should i change my name or not and if i change it then what will happen if i send my documents to university for admission?
