I am sponsoring my Peruvian husband to come to Canada with me. I am currently living in Peru with him, but for the first year and a bit we had a long distance relationship and used messenger extensively.

Our messenger chat log is 237 pages on a pt. 8 font!! It is in a mix of English & Spanish, but mostly Spanish. If I have to submit the original 237 pages plus the translated 237 pages it would be utterly ridiculous. Almost an entire ream of paper, not to mention how long it would actually take me to translate the whole thing! Much of the conversation is just the chit chat before going to video chat and at the end of video chat so it isn't really that scintillating or profound. However, I do want to submit the entire 237 pages untranslated just to show the frequency and magnitude of our communication. I plan to translate sections that have some substance and meaning to them.

Do you think it is even worth submitting the entire untranslated log or should I just submit the original + translations of what I decide to translate?

Submitting chat logs is not mandatory. If you can supply extensive back up such as a copy of a will, cards, pictures, lease, joint credit cards or bank accounts are all very good ways to support your relationship and show that you are committed to your relationship.

Lots of people do not send chat logs, some do in addition to the above. It really is about showing the genuiness of your relationship and I don't believe that chat logs are any stronger evidence than the above.

If you are going to submit a chat log, it has to be in English or French (otherwise it is useless). They can't read it and will not know what it says. Which means it is useless to you and to them in determining how genuine it is and how it relates to your relationship.

I would never suggest sending 237 pages of chat logs, even if they were in English personally.... Pick one day/conversation from the beginning, one from the middle and one the "end", and translate and submit making sure time/date stamps are included...
State that this is a sampling of your chat logs and that you can supply more or the file in it's entirety (untranslated), on request...

I suggest sending both translated and original chat logs samples. :)
What I did was submitting a log per month for 3 years, but we communicate in English.
