Hello

I have started a relationship with my closest friend, and he wants to sponsor me as we are building life together now and living together already. We have known each other for over 5 years and he invited me to visit here in Canada. We are wondering how much getting married would help the process before applying it? I think it would prove that we are in a genuine relationship and want to have own family as well. He is Quebecois himself.

We are starting to work on proofs now. Any ideas and suggestions would help
Thank you

You can apply either after getting married, or after living together for 12 consecutive months to become legally common-law.

There is really no difference between the 2 types of apps, except for common-law you must submit evidence that you've cohabited for the 12 required months.

thank you so much. We would be legally common law then in August.

Hopefully you are keeping detailed proofs/evidence of the cohabitation, so things like shared lease/rental contract, shared financial/bank/credit card accounts, joint insurance on each other with same address, mail going to same address, etc etc.
