My husband called me at 5 in the morning. He received email. He has interview on September 12th. Oh! God! I am so nervous!!! An interview means they are not completely convinced about us! Here is the said email:

Habibiti: almost everyone gets an interview in Rabat. Don't sweat it. Just try to encourage your husband to be calm and confident and natural in the interview.

The questions aren't really unreasonable...but it still might be helpful to just make sure your husband is up to date on some of the more logistical details of your life and situation in Canada.

For example: you two may have talked endlessly about how much you love your job and boss and coworkers, but does he know the name if the company or your general job title? Stuff like that can get lost in a long distance relationship...

But really don't stress it...going in nervous and fumbly with over rehearsed answers won't do you any favours.

Congratulations for getting this far!!!

Thank you Lynn! But I read on this forum that some people in Morocco had their interview waived. Also there is another lady in Canada (she is in Toronto and me in Vancouver) whose husband is in Morocco and he will have an interview on the same date as my husband. I think they applied one week after us... Well, we have 2 weeks to get prepared and rehearse our answers. Especially about the age difference... (I am 20 years older than my husband). Thanks for your supportive words!

Hi habibti,

Yes there are a few who don't have interviews, but I think most do. If I had to guess (and it really is only a guess) the people with waived interviews likely have some cultural or religious commonalities.

Once you factor religious differences, cultural differences, age differences and nature of relationship (online etc.) - most end up in the interview chair. He will be expected to speak to any of those issues that apply to your relationship.

I may be being overly picky on wording...but I strongly suggest you and your hubby refrain from "rehearsing" as it will come off as just that. Be genuine and inchallah the IO will recognise your relationship is genuine!

The most important thing for your husband is to keep his cool (maybe that is easy for him - idk) and realise they aren't asking just to be nosy and intrusive.

I totally agree with you! I know he will be nervous and it is legitimate to be nervous! The most important thing is to be natural and genuine! And as you said, the IO will recognize that we are completely committed to each other! Thanks again Lynn!

Thanks brother! One of our arguments is that we are both aware of the big age difference and we are also aware that it is possible to have a relationship with someone of our own age, but in every relationship there is a different set of joys, a different set of difficulties and a different set of challenges. We prefer to have joys, difficulties and challenges together rather than with someone else. Also our union is spiritual and time does not exist in the world of God :)

Habibti,

If you don't already know the story of Khadijja and Mohammed (P.B.U.H.) ask your husband about it. It's probably the soundest argument there is for a large age difference (Islamically).

I know all about it! And the amazing thing is there are so many similarities between their life and ours! That is why my husband loves me so much. He has a great connection with Allah and the Prophet, and being married to me, he feels closer to his Prophet. This is already one of our arguments about the age difference. The other argument we have is that people think he is older than me lol (they just have to look at our pictures). And the other argument I said a couple of times to my husband to tease him is: "If you really wanted to use a woman to get a free ticket for Canada, I think you would have been clever enough to take a richer woman, a much younger one, a sexier one, a fresher one, isn't???" lol
