Should I apply for a tourist extension or Open Work Permit?

I come Canada on 28 Dec 2021, My visitor is valid until June 28, I will apply for common-law immigration in a few days.

The question is I need an extension of my visitor visa first or just apply Open Work Permit?

You will likely need to extend your stay first. If you include an open work permit in your spouse sponsorship application, you may not know if it will be returned or not before June 28. (until AOR - acknowledge of receipt) If it's returned, then you will be out of status since that OWP application would have given you implied status.

Simple answer is apply to extend your visitor status before it expires. It's safer that way.
