Hi,

My husband (UK citizen with a Canadian PR) and I (Canadian) have moved to Canada (Quebec). He has received his PR at the end of August 2014. We understand that since we have applied to settle in Quebec (family reasons), we are "forced" to remain in the province for 2 years from the date of receipt of PR.

What we would like to find out is whether there are ways around it. My husband is struggling to find work here in this French environment, even with his attempt to learn the language, and we are seriously considering moving to a different province.

Thanks for your help!

Hmmm I thought PRs can live anywhere in Canada, however they wish?? Why would you be forced to stay in Quebec for 2 years though? Does your husband's COPR state that he must remain in Quebec for the next 2 years?

I'll let the other members chime in though.....as I don't have much experience with Quebec... :)

You are not "forced" to remain in Quebec. A PR is free to live and work anywhere in Canada.

The form you signed for immigration purposes declared your intent to settle in Quebec. Intent can change, in your case, for employment reasons.

I don't know where you got the 2 year thing from? Are you possibly thinking of condition 51 (obligation to co-habit for 2 years?) for a sponsored spouse?

There is no such rule. With PR you can move anywhere in Canada, at any time you want.

The only control Quebec asks for in their immigration processes are that they get to select who can settle in Quebec. There are no conditions around how long you stay. They do this so they can have some control over their French culture and all that stuff.

The only 2 year requirement around sponsorship is that you remain in a relationship living together for 2 years from your landing date. There are exceptions for abuse and similar situations. That's all.

Hello,

Could somebody tell me,

if I lande to Quebec, after I got PC, could I settle in some other place of Canada (that is not Quebec) ?

Then, how long I have to stay in Quebec before I settle in Alberta, for example?

Thank you!
