Hi,

I am a self-employed graphic designer working from home for a Canadian employer. I am planning to make my move to Canada and work for the same company but from within Canada.

I would like to know if it is possible for me to get work permit? Please help :)

Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately there is no self-employed work permit.

To qualify to apply for a work permit, your company will first have to make you a job offer (i.e. agree to take you on as an employee rather than a self-employed/contract worker). Your company will then need to obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp. Once the LMO has been approved, you can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific company.

Thank you for your reply. Really appreciate that!

One thing, what are the chances of getting LMO approved for a graphic design position?

Unfortunately I can't say.

The employer will have to prove that they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian for the role.
