I applied in Sep 2011, and RQ was received by CIC in Aug 2012. So far no test date for me. I have studied worked and lived in Canada from 13 years. Everyone in my family has citizenship, but not me. In Dec 2013 I received a letter stating to prepare for the test, but the date has not come. Any idea about the timeline for test date? So disappointed

There is no exact timeline but if you received that notice then you'll be getting a test date soon! Hang in there, it seems they started speeding the process a little. I would also check on your CIC online status for updates. Goodluck!

Hey Guys,

Ive been following the forum for a while! Just wanted to encourage you all - I did my test last week (St.Clair), and now waiting for my oath date.

Applied March 2012
RQ November 2012
Notice to prepare for test December 2013
Notice for Test January 14th 2014
Wrote and passed test on January 27th (St.Clair, Toronto)
Was told to expect oath in 2-3 months

There is hope everyone - they seem like they're working faster - looks like ill get citizenship in 25 months although I had a pre-test RQ.

I was not aware that 1 day out of Canada is counts for 2 days out of Canada....it does not make any sense to me. As a PR, if I am out of Canada for 10 days, it means I have to stay 20 days to make up for the 10 days??? How is it possible? Can the 10 days just be eliminated??

I was out of the country for 6 months while a PR before....I used the calculator and there was not any problem. I did not stay extra 12 months in Canada to make up for the 6 months. The 6 months were just not counted towards my physical days in Canada. Am I missing something here???
Residency Calculator CIC:

According to the information you provided, you meet the basic residence requirement but you have not been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (three years) in the four years (1,460 days) preceding the date of your application.According to the information you provided and assuming nothing else changes, you will accumulate 1,095 days of physical presence on 2012-11-17.

If no absences I should apply on May 20th 2012. I have 91 days of absences and add 91 days to May 20th 2012 and I applied on August 20th 2012, but according residency calculator of CIC I should apply on November 17th 2012 - 182 days from May 20th 2012. So If days not counts 1 for 2 why I have to wait 182 days instead of 91 days?

I would not know how you entered your absences in the calculator so I have no comment on this.

But I did not agree with you on your previous statement as 1 day out of country count as 2 days inside the country. I was out of the country for 6 months, so I waited 6 more months before applying....I had no problem with meeting residency. It all depends on the detail of absence you enter.

Also were you in Canada 3 years out of 4 years since you become PR? Did you become PR when you arrived? I was first an international student for 2 years before becoming PR, then I waited extra 3 years after becoming PR to apply. So in terms of physically present, I had no issue.

Anyway, CIC did not state "1 day out of country count as 2 days inside the country" so I would not assume so.

Hi Peter74 & nguyentu2001,

peter and nguyentu you are both right how? peter have NPR( non permanent resident time in his calculation) so lets say:

peter came to Canada 1-feb-2009
got Pr 1-feb-2011

so if peter travels March 2011 to April 2011, 30 days in total and wants to apply citizenship in 2013 he cannot apply after "1-feb-2013 + 30days"

peter have to wait (1-feb-2013 + 60 days) since he have 2 years = 365 days NPR time in his calculation..

if you have PR since you arrived in Canada then you are not counting .5 days.

I know its exhausting and confusing.

The fact that he was non-PR might be the factor that messed up the calculation.
He should have used the calculator provided by CIC since the time before becoming PR was calculated differently.

I came to Canada on Jan 7, 2006 as a refugee. I become PR on May 19, 2010. During this time 2006-2010 I have NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE CANADA even for 1minute.

Ok I think i kind of understand your situation
You applied on August 20th 2012. Only 4 years prior to you signed application counted so we can ignore time from 2006 2007 2008
You applied on August 20th 2012...so go back 2011 2010 2009
You only became PR on May 19, 2010

May 19 2009- May 19 2010: 1 year
May 20, 2010- May 20, 2011: 1 year
May 21, 2011- May 20 2012: 1 year

You were away 6 months so May 2012+ 6 months in order to apply.....so if you applied on August 20th 2012. obviously you did not meet the residence obligation.

just a very rough estimate.

ACTUALLY THIS IS DIFFRENT CALCULATION FOR PEOPLE WHO CAME TO CANADA BEFORE THEIR PR. i WAS ALSO CONFUSED AS FEW OF MY FREINDS ( CAME AS STUDENT ) WHO TOLD THEIR ABSENCE COUNT 2 DAYS FOR 1 DAY. I THOUGHT THEY DIDNT UNDERSTAND CALCULATION,,BUT I JUST TRIED ONLINE RESIDENCE CALCULATOR & IT GIVES THE SAME,,I PUT "CAME TO CAMANADA 2 YEARS BEFORE PR & 15 DAYS ABSENSE DURING PR,,IT COUNTED 2 DAYS. AS THEY GET BONUS FOR PHYSICAL PRESENCE BEFORE THEY BECAME PR,,,OTHERWAY THEIR ABSENCE ARE COUNTED 2 FOR 1 DURING PR. LITTLE FUNNY
