I became a Permanent Residence on 16 November 2009, landed via Montreal and have only stayed for less than 4 months. I left Montreal in March 2010 to my home country due to urgent family issues that I had to attend to. I may need to stay here for a year until the whole issue gets resolved. Question is can I return to Montreal next year with my PR card alone? Am I required to present the Returning Permit which I did not apply? Should I also inform the local visa office here of my temporary stay? Pls advice as I do not want to loose the PR.
Thanks

If you are an owner of a PR Card, I dont see any problems with you coming back. However, you have to make sure that in order to keep your permanent resident status, you have to live 2 out of the 5 years here in Canada.

Hi soulfrost, thank u for your reply.

Yes I am in the possession of the PR card. The 730 days (2 years) out of 5 years duration must not be necessarily be a stretched period, right?
