dear leon, we landed as pr on 3rd june 2013 ,then due to some family reasons we came back on 1st sep 2013.Right now we are unable to go back, We are plannng to reenter in july 2016.My concern is that after spending 2 years we will be able to manitain our pr status, and our cards will be renewed for another 5 years. Now at that time if we will continue living in Canada for next consecutive 2 years, total years will be 2+2=4,will that will be sufficent for citizenship. Our previous 2 years will be counted for citizenship or not,OR we have to be there for another consecutive 4 years.

Do you have proof that you stayed in Canada until Sept. 1st 2013? If not, it would be safer for you to return before June 3rd 2016 because then the IO can not say that you were outside Canada more than 3 years which would put you in breach of the RO.

You should not try to renew your PR cards until you have 730 provable days in Canada in the previous 5 years. If this means that your PR card have to expire before you can renew, that is ok.

Citizenship requirements are not affected by PR card periods so if you stay 4 years straight, you would be ok to apply.

If you kept the tickets from when you left Canada and you have entry stamps from another country in September and no other stamps in between, you should be able to make a good case to immigration that you left in September and so you would not have exceeded your 3 years outside if you return in 2016 in July.

The next step, provided there is nothing to 'hinder' you, would be them perhaps asking for you to email them the bio page of your passport, although not necessarily, and then you will get a COPR in your mailbox at whatever address is listed with CIC. You can then land. Unless you have a criminal background or something similar, you will likely hear from them in the next few weeks as Ottawa has been flying through applications from the US.
