Hi all,

My pr expires in a year, and I have stayed outside the country for 3 and half years to date.
I will be heading back to canada next month.
At the point of entry will the immigration officer report me? Or ask to renounce my pr?
If I renounce my PR at that point, will they give me a visitor visa to enter canada?
I'm clueless about this, please help!

If they do indicate that they want to report you for the breach of the Residency Obligation and issue a s.44(1) report, they will offer you the chance to revoke/renounce PR status at the airport and allow you to enter Canada as a visitor. This is what happened to me before they issued me the s.44(1) report a few week ago at Toronto Pearson. I don't know for sure what would happen if you chose to take the visitor thing, as I did not take that option, and whether it applies in all cases (I hold a visa-exempt passport to Canada).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
So if they report you, they also give you a chance to enter and appeal correct?

Has anyone chosen otherwise and entered as a visitor?!

Thanks in advance.
