Renew PR Card

Hello everyone

I've got a questions in regards to renewal of PR Card.

There is a discrepancy on CIC website in this regard. In one page it states "You should renew your card six months before it expires", while on another page it states "Important information: Do not apply for a renewal of your current PR card if it is still valid for more than nine (9) months (270 days), unless it is due to a legal name change. Otherwise, your application will be returned.".

I was wondering which one is correct. Can someone apply 8 months before expiration date or it should be less than 6 months?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

At the bottom of each webpage, which one is updated more recently? Go with the more recent. The general rule is 6 months, but I dont see them returning an application if it is 9 months.

I believe the 9 months is more recent, and I think the webpage was updated for this. It is now taking much longer for PR renewal, thats why.

Actually PR renewals without issues are being processed much faster now.

When I sent in my application on October 8, 2014, the processing time was at 183 days. Now it's down to 127 days. They are processing 2 weeks of applications in 1 week.

Btw, my application was approved on Feb 2, 2015 and mailed Feb 5, 2015.

talili76 please tell me what are the important documents to be enclosed with the application for PR renewal. And in address history we have to mention the address of our back home also or only addresses of residence in Canada is enough.

The documents I submitted were:

1. Copy of PR Card

2.Copy of expired passport page showing doc no. and expiry date plus passport page that was stamped when landed. (I didn't receive my renewed passport in time to submit with application)

3. Copy of COPR and provincial driver's licence

4. Coloured copies of all pages of passport

5. Copy of CRA NOAs for 3 years (2011 to 2013)

6. Photos

7. Online receipt

You need to provide all addresses you lived in for the five years (both in Canada and back home).

Hope this helps

You have to provide all addresses. Both in Canada and back home

My card expired on January 8.

My husband sent in his application one month after me (Nov 6th) as his card was expiring April 25th. And his application was processed and approved 2 weeks after mine, February 14th (which is weird because that's a Saturday).
