Done with our medicals at IOM last june 23. Unfortunately i need to undergo sputum test which is scheduled on june 29,30 and july 1. The panel physician told me that there was a suspicion of inactive TB. This stresses me and my husband so much because of the delays in our application this will cause. Im just so worried because i read from previous posts that even the test turned out negative result, some are still required to undergo 6 months treatment which is so unreasonable.
Don't stress out too much, if you aren't experiencing any symptoms and have not had any history of TB, I don't think they will ask you to get treatment. Just undergo the sputum test and hope for the best. Same thing happened with me, no symptoms, no history just something seen in my x-ray. I'm done with the sputum test and x-ray na.

Hello Seniors

Please help me I want to know that shall I send Chest X Ray film to Visa office directly to consider my chest x ray with recent one instead ask me to go for repeat chest x ray

I have 6 chest x ray film which was took during my TB treatment in 2010-2011 and last 2 chest x ray is same as recent one so I strongly believe to send them but doctor didn't accepted it since it was not in digital copy and they are working for eMedical so they need it should be digital copy only to download to the eMedical File however I thought one idea to send all this to directly to visa office for their consideration if they will accept and compare this to current chest x ray than sure I will get relief of atleast one month and get faster PPR

Please friend advise what should I do now should I send them all chest x ray or wait for repeat chest x ray
I think you need to do the repeat chest x-ray as your DMP will not accept results taken from other hospitals, also you need to wait for your sputum exam results. I know it's unreasonable but they are very paranoid about TB unfortunately.

Hi All,

I see so much of experience on this topic - so hoping that some one can clear my doubt asI have submitted my application online a few days and have a doubt regarding the medicals.

I had PTB 14 years back (1998-1999) and it left a scar in my lung. Since then, by god's grace, I have not had any problems. Every 2 years I go for a standard medical check and the latest X-Ray result says "Fibrotic Opacity seen in upper right lobe". I took a second opinion and the doctor said - "affected lung tissue got healed by scarring. Just like a scar form on the skin over any injury, similarly a scar has formed in your lungs. It is an area of healed lung tissue in the form of fibrosis"
When I go the CIC medicals later in July, will I be asked to go for a Sputum AFB and the 2 months Culture?
In 2007, when I had to work in the UK, after my X-ray, I was asked to undergo a CT scan where the result was immediate and based on that my travel was cleared by my company. In London I had to undergo supervision (visit to a hospital in London every 3 months for a general checkup which stopped after 2 visits).

Can anyone help me with the following?
Will I be asked to asked to undergo the 2 months Culture test or do I have the chance of going the CT scan route which is much faster and showing my previous X-Rays?
Any inputs is appreciated as this helps in planning my relocation and child's education.

^Leo369, most probably you will be asked to undergo the sputum AFB and culture exam. It's just standard procedure for the CIC even if what they see in your chest x-ray is just scarring. Just be prepared for them to ask you.
What you can do during your medical exam is to bring your medical records during the time you had TB (especially what medicines you took, who treated you, etc.) You can also bring a certification from your doctor as well as your past X-ray films so they can compare

You just need patience. TB is not a ground for medical inadmissibility, just a hassle because they ask you to wait a few months more ;)

Hello Leo

My suggestion is if u had Chest X ray which was took in last 3-6 months than please get this in digital form from the place u had ur chest x ray which will help u to not ask for Sputum test but if u will not provide them digital copy of Chest x ray than they may ask for sputum test and repeat chest x ray after 3 months. Also u can get ur CT scan which can confirm about Inactive tb and get this in digital form.

Digital reports will be given in CD by the hospital where u had ur chest x ray or CT Scan this will help panel
Physician to upload to ur eMedical file however they can't upload hard copy of chest x ray film or CT Scan film so better get digital print of the same

The same with my husband. When did you start medications? Why 3 SPUTUM tests?

Hi Scorpio and Winni,

Thank You very much for the answers.
Yes - I shall take the previous X-Ray in Digital format and even then if they insist on the additional 2 /3 months time period, then there is nothing I can do about it - I guess.

God Bless.

^^ hi Winni, I think you have to wait. My mom, who's a medical technologist, says the TB bacterium takes very long to grow so they really have to wait out eight weeks to make sure you don't have it.
As long as your DMP doesn't call you, you're ok. It's bad when they call you before the full 8 weeks are up, coz that means the TB bacteria has grown. There's nothing else you can do but wait.
