Hi,

Has your spouse (the one being sponsored) ever been requested to submit proof of education or employment in family class sponsorship?

I do only know of one couple who were asked for employment documents / proof...
Just want to prepare in case...

Only the sponsor is requested to attach a proof of employment in the initial application.
For the sponsorship, I don't think the sponsored person has to provide this.

However, it would be beneficial to have those ready when the person lands to Canada as a PR. Those are what they need to present when they want to upgrade their education or skills here in Canada :)

Check the country specific guide. Some applicants do need to include proof of education (copies of diplomas, etc). Some people also need to include proof of employment, but again, that's country-specific. If your guide did not mention it, then you probably don't need to.
The sponsor does need to include proof of employment.

The only time I think they might ask is if the sponsor wasn't working, or if they had doubts about how the applicant and sponsor would support themselves, in which case proof of education and employment from the applicant's side might help, proving that they are employable.

Thank you. According the country-specific guide, he does not need any proof, however, I know another couple where the sponsored spouse is from the same country as mine, and CIC did request work records from him - but yes you are right, come to think about it, the sponsor is not currently employed, which must be the reason....so...thx, lol!

Well, except for such a case as mine; in Quebec, we do not have to provide proof...

Ah yes, but we will prepare all his diplomas, etc.

Thanks your input!!

Good luck to all!

The other thing too perhaps, is while we weren't required and didn't provide immediate "proof" of these things, in our case the sponsored person had to state where and what they have been doing for the past 10 years. If CIC doesn't believe it, then I suspect they would also request proof of such.

I was interviewed(sponsored by my wife) and the main reason was my education. They wanted to know in detail where I took education and when I completed my programs. They wanted to see my transcripts. Although education documents are not in the checklist of spousal application but I highly recommend to include it, otherwise it can waste your precious time like it wasted my one whole year especially if you are living in canada with your spouse.

I would say that things not included in the checklist are not really necessary, it might just make your application more complicated.
If there's anything that you would like to add, which are not stated in the checklist, it's only the ones that prove your relationship to be genuine.

If in the future they would need the proof of education or employment, they would definitely request it.
For now, just make it simple and straightforward. Do not provide CIC stuff that they don't ask for.
